“Right. Goodbye,” he said sharply, pulling me out of my thoughts.

I held my breath and waited for him to turn around. When he did, I gasped. It was the gorgeous guy I’d run into earlier.

“Oh my God,” I whispered.

The same guy I’d spilled my latte on. The same guy I’d insulted at least three times.

A slow, evil smile spread across his face as he leaned forward and rested his arms on his desk.

“Long time no see, Saylor.”

I swallowed hard and tried to close my gaping mouth. I wasn’t sure if my heart was racing from the realization that I’d already insulted my boss multiple times or from the sexy way he said my first name, making it sound almost…dirty. A good dirty. Like, crawl on the desk and spread open for me, dirty.

“I am so fired,” I mumbled.

CHAPTER TWO

* * *

Mason

THE SECOND I saw her name on her business card, I knew this was my new marketing research analyst from Seattle. She’d come highly recommended, and her former boss had even told me he’d offered to raise her salary to try and keep her. But she said she was leaving Seattle for personal reasons. At the time we spoke, I didn’t give two fucks why she was leaving. All I knew was that I wanted her at Maxwell and Locke and had made her an offer with the condition that she move to New York City within two weeks. I was impressed when she’d agreed to it.

Now, she sat across from me at my desk with a look of sheer panic on her face. I chose to ignore the feeling of my rock-hard dick in my pants and drew my brows together. The bastard had been hard since I’d first laid eyes on her. Then that smart-ass mouth had turned me on even more. It’d taken everything I had not to stop the elevator and pull her into my arms and kiss her. I hadn’t done it, though, since I was positive she wouldn’t have allowed it. But with the way she had been checking me out, maybe she would have.

I let my eyes travel down her body quickly before looking back into those fucking gorgeous hazel eyes of hers. “Seems like maybe you and I need a do-over.”

The way her throat bobbed when she swallowed had me adjusting the suddenly too-tight tie around my neck.

“A … a do-over?” she asked in a shaky voice.

With a smirk, I replied, “Unless you want to start our working relationship with you calling me an asshole, a jerk, and my personal favorite of them all…an asshat.”

She winced.

“Of course, I did call you a bitch, so...”

A stunned expression covered her beautiful face and she asked, “When did you call me a bitch?”

“About six times under my breath.”

Narrowing her eyes, she opened her mouth and started down a road I knew she would quickly regret. “You ass—”

Her mouth snapped shut, and she closed her eyes. Taking a deep breath, she stood and then spun on her heels as she headed toward my office door. I quickly stood, starting to panic.

Fuck. She’s quitting.

True to the erratic nature that was quickly becoming familiar, Saylor stopped, whirled back around, and gave me a drop-me-to-my-fucking-knees smile.

Where in the hell did all the air in the room go?

Holy shit. No woman has ever had this effect on me.

“Mr. Quinn, it’s such a pleasure meeting you.” She started towards me, her hand extended. “I’ve been looking forward to today since we last spoke on the phone.”

What in the fuck is happening right now?

I stood there in stunned silence as I shook her hand and then dropped it. When I didn’t respond, she lifted her brow and then kept going.

“I wanted to thank you again for the opportunity to show you how I’ll bring Maxwell and Locke closer to their goals of modernizing the company. I have a feeling we’re going to make a great team, and I’m anxious to get started.”

She sat down in the chair again, crossed those amazing legs of her, and sat back. “Was that the do-over you were imagining?”

I pushed my hand through my hair and let out a laugh. “I’ve never in my life met a woman like you, Saylor Night. How are you not the fucking CEO of your own company?”

She shrugged and gave me a cute-as-hell smirk. “I’m not interested in spending twenty hours a day as a slave to my job. Don’t get me wrong, I’m dedicated, but I also like to have a life. Been there done that and no longer interested.”

I nodded.

“So is our do-over going well?” She gave me a wink.

Laughing, I replied, “It’s going better than you spilling your hot tea on me.”

Both of her brows lifted and I knew she wanted to say something smart ass, but she refrained. When I first spoke with her on the phone, I knew I’d like her. Saylor was definitely not disappointing me. “So, is there a project you’d like me to get started on?” she asked.
