“Totally. I get it.” He stood and smacked me on the shoulder. “Looks like you’re gonna be raising a kid no matter what.” Holden held out his hand. “Welcome to the no-sleep club, man.”

I shook with him. “Crazy, right? Me, of all people.”

“Never thought I’d see the day.” He looked up at the ceiling. “Ryan’s been playing some crazy games up there, sending us all babies.” Holden got back down on the ground and slid into the cabinet. “I gotta get this going, but keep talking.”

“What’s wrong with the sink?”

“Pipe has a leaky joint,” he answered.

A few minutes later, a deluge of water sprayed out everywhere.

“Fuck!” he yelled. “Pipe burst.”

As Holden ran to go shut off the water, I rummaged for a pot to collect some of it. I ended up totally soaked from my head to my crotch before the water stopped.

Holden returned. “I’m a fucking idiot for not turning off the water before working on the pipe.”

“Well, you didn’t expect it to burst.”

I hung out for a few more minutes, but then figured I’d let him be. “Well, I just wanted to say hello. You need anything before I go?”

“Nah. I’m good.” He came out from under the sink for a moment. “Keep me posted, okay? Lala and I are waiting with bated breath, too.”

“You know I will.”

Totally drenched, I headed down the hall. As I entered the elevator, I got a text.

Devyn: Where are you? I’m in front of your apartment.

Owen: Heading over there now. I was hanging out with Holden upstairs. Stay there. Coming to you.

When I got to my floor, I saw her standing at my door. She ran toward me, wrapped in a towel with her hair soaking wet. We each looked like we’d escaped a monsoon.

“What happened, Devyn? Why are you still in your bathing suit?”

Had something gone wrong at the pool? Was there an accident?

She gasped for air. “The doctor called.” The few seconds it took her to catch her breath were the longest of my life. “I ran here to tell you…”

My heart was beating out of my chest. “Okay?”

“It’s yours, Owen.” Her voice trembled. “You’re the father.”

A cloud of euphoria enveloped me. “Oh my God.”

Tears filled her eyes. “I know.”

My hands shook. “Oh my God.”

“We’re so lucky.” A tear fell down her cheek.

I repeated again, “Oh my God!” My voice echoed in the hallway as I lifted Devyn up and swung her around. I shut my eyes. “I feel like I can breathe for the first time since you told me you were pregnant.”

“Me, too, Owen.”

I put her down and knelt, placing my head against her belly, which was just starting to pop. “This is my baby inside of you. Holy shit.”

She threaded her fingers through my hair. “Yes.”

“My baby,” I muttered.

“Yes!” she cried out.

I jumped up, lifting her again and squeezing her tightly.

“What the hell happened? Did we have a flood?”

We turned to find Colby standing there, holding two coffees. He looked understandably confused.

I put Devyn down.

“What happened is…I’m having a baby, Colby.” I beamed.

“What?” His eyes went wide. “First off, why are you all wet?” He shook his head. “But what?”

“Burst pipe,” I said.

“Ran from the pool to tell him the news,” Devyn added.

“Okay, secondly…what?” He laughed. “You guys are having a baby?”

“Devyn and I have known she was pregnant for some time, but… It’s a long story. We needed to keep it under wraps for a while, but now we can shout it to the world.”

Colby’s mouth was practically hanging open. “Well…congratulations! Does anyone else know?”

“Holden,” I reluctantly answered.

His eyes narrowed. “You told Holden before me?”

“He overheard Devyn and me talking one day—he and Lala, actually. They found out by accident.”

“He kept it a secret?”

I shrugged. “Miracles do happen.”

“Your wife also knows,” Devyn added.

“Really?” He shook his head. “Damn, she didn’t let on at all.”

Devyn nodded. “I know. She’s a good friend. I’m sorry I made her keep it from you.”

“Brayden doesn’t know?” he asked.

“No. He’ll be the last to find out.”

“He’s not gonna be happy about that.” Colby chuckled. “Let’s go to my apartment and call him now.”

The three of us walked together to Colby’s, and I dialed Brayden as soon as we got there.

“What’s up?” he answered.

“We’re all at Colby’s. Get down here. I need to tell you something. Big news.” Then I hung up.

Billie entered the room from the kitchen, holding baby Maverick. She looked surprised to see Devyn and me. “Hey, guys. What’s up? Were you swimming?”

“You knew about the pregnancy, huh?” Colby said, walking over and smacking her ass.

Billie shrugged. “I did.”

“It’s mine, Billie,” I announced.

Her eyes widened. “Yes!” She jumped for joy. “Hell, yes!”

Colby squinted and turned to me. “Who else’s would it have been?”

“Again, long story for another day.”

He opened his mouth but then nodded, opting not to push further.

Brayden entered the apartment. “Why are you both wet?”
