“This should absolutely be about you. You can’t tell me you weren’t terrified when Trey attacked you.”

“Of course I was, and I can’t think of anything that would make me feel better than giving you this.”

“That doesn’t—”

“Did you enjoy giving me Daisy?”

“Yes. Seeing you so happy and—”

“Exactly. Did you enjoy making sure I was fucked into total oblivion?”

“Yes.”

“Then let go with me. Let me see you have that same kind of release.”

“If you think I haven’t enjoyed every second I’ve spent touching you, kissing you and coming deep inside you—”

“I don’t think that. I know you have, but have you ever just completely stopped thinking and directing everything?”

I wanted to lie, but I was sure he would know. “Jacob—”

“Do you think you can let go now?”

He was fucking relentless, and I loved that about him. “I’m not sure.”

“Could you do it for me?”

I pulled him to me. “You really are something.”

“I’m your something, and I want you to stop taking care of everyone for just a few minutes.”

“I want more than a few minutes of you.”

“Fine, a few hours.”

“At least.”

Jacob frowned. “If you plan to keep me out here all night, you’d better let someone know.”

“I already texted Rhys so he would know where we were.”

“So we aren’t really hidden.”

“We’re better off with him knowing. Do you really think he and Rogue wouldn’t come looking for us if we disappeared after all that’s happened?”

“And now they won’t?”

“Not unless there’s a major emergency, and there damn well better not be one.”

Jacob nodded. “We deserve some quiet time.”

“Are you sure you can handle the real, raw me with nothing holding me back? You saw what I did earlier. It’s hard for me to even trust myself when I let my instincts take over.”

“I know.”

“What if I hurt you?”

“You won’t. You need this and so do I. I deserve the real you. All of you.”

“You’ve had that.”

I raised my brows. “Have I?”

Why was he so damn perceptive? “I don’t know if I can. If you see all of me, then—”

“Grant, give me this. Please. I love you, and I want you to be comfortable with me.”

“I… I love you too, Jacob, so much that it scares me.”

“It scares me too, but I’m ready to jump into it.”

“You’re so fucking brave.”

I stared at him. “You do remember you led a force recon team, right?”

“I was scared to death every time we started a mission.”

“But you did it anyway. That’s what makes you so brave. You have setbacks, but you just keep going.”

“Jacob, are you sure? Are you sure this is what you want? Me? All the shit I’ve been holding back and—”

“Yes. You. All of you.” He kissed me then. It was rough and unguarded. I opened for him, letting him take what he needed, letting him hold on to me. He became my anchor.

When the kiss ended, I met his gaze. “What Trey did to you… I don’t ever want you to feel like I’ve trapped you here.”

“I don’t. You told me that once I was safe, you would let me go.”

“I would have, but it would’ve hurt like hell, and I might not have been able to stop myself from tracking you down.”

“I want to be here, to be wanted by you, possessed by you. You’re nothing like Trey. You care about me. You care about your family. I’m not just a decoration to you.”

“Never. Jacob, you’re everything to me. You’re part of my family now, and nothing means more to me.”

Tears welled up in his eyes, and I brushed them away with my thumbs.

“Turn around,” he ordered.

I raised my brows.

“You heard me.”

“Don’t think I’m going to be following your orders all day,” I said with a smile.

Jacob huffed. “I know better but indulge me for now.”

“I was going to kiss you, be sweet and romantic, show you that I really do love you.”

“That’s making this about me. Remember what I told you?”

“I don’t know how to—”

“I’m going to help. Now turn around.”

JACOB

Grant did as I said, but I realized I was going to have to get used to this too. He was facing away from me, but I wanted him facing the wall. “That’s not what I meant.”

He spun in a full circle. “This?”

I rolled my eyes at him. “No. Put your hands on the wall and stick your ass out.” I stepped out of the way so he could.

“Are you sure I can trust you?”

I glared at him until he obeyed. I shivered as I remembered how good it had felt to be held against the wall with his body.

“That’s better. Now take off your pants.”

“I knew you were up to something.”

“Are you going to act like you don’t want to be naked with me?”

He looked over his shoulder and grinned. “I’d be happy to spend the rest of the year in bed naked with you.”
