My pulse sped up. What if he did get away and the men who were after him found him and… No way in hell was I going to let that happen.

Without even realizing it, I started heading in the direction of the barn.

That didn’t mean I wanted to see Carlo, just that I wanted to check on him. He wouldn’t be in the barn anyway. A man as fashionable as him wouldn’t want to get dirty—except in bed. He hadn’t minded it then.

This was insane. I had to stop obsessing about that night, but how could I when it was the only time I’d felt true pleasure since I’d been captured.

I hadn’t been sure I would enjoy anything that much again.

For all I knew, Carlo regretted ever seeing me.

Really? After he looked disappointed when you didn’t want a second round. You could always sneak up to his room.

Someone would surely see me, and I wasn’t going to explain about Carlo to anyone else. It was hard enough feeling the way I did when I was the only one who knew. If I fucked Carlo again, it would have to be in secret.

If?

Shit.

When I got close to the barn, I knew I was in big trouble. Rhys was in the training ring with a young mare, which I’d expected, but I froze when I saw Carlo leaning against the fence watching him. Carlo was wearing jeans that had likely cost more than all my clothes put together, a t-shirt that was likely also designer, and some old, mud-stained boots. They must be Jacob’s if I guessed his size right.

He looked ridiculous, but also fucking hot, wearing those clothes on the ranch. I froze, hoping he wouldn’t hear me. Maybe I could fade back into the trees. Rhys was there to keep Carlo safe. I knew how easily he got wrapped up in working with the horses, but I’d seen him do at least three things at once plenty of times in the marines.

Carlo turned my way before I could get out of his line of sight. I stopped breathing when he looked at me. After a moment, I brought my finger to my lips letting him know not to say anything.

He smiled, then glanced back toward the ring. Rhys was busy talking to the skittish horse.

When Carlo faced me again, my hand rose of its own accord, and my fingers curled, beckoning him to me. What the fuck was I doing?

I moved back, stepping behind a tree for cover. Rhys would spot me if he really looked. He was trained for that, but I hoped he’d be too distracted.

I heard Carlo speaking, but I couldn’t make out the words.

Rhys paused, looked at him, then nodded.

Carlo headed away from me like he was going to the house, but when Rhys wasn’t looking, he veered off course and headed toward me. He was far too loud, crunching leaves and snapping twigs with each step. I doubted Rhys was listening that carefully, but if he got suspicious, he could find us easily.

I realized my heart was pounding against my chest, but it wasn’t fear. It was the same excitement I used to feel before an adventure or when I was about to fuck a man through the mattress. The anticipation was delicious. How did Carlo make me feel things I never thought I’d feel again?

“Hi,” he said when he was close.

I tried to respond, but I couldn’t get my voice to work. My head swam, and I knew I was close to freaking out. I struggled to talk whenever I was unsure, and I couldn’t be more unsure than I was at that moment. How badly would I regret this? How much better would it be if I ran for my cabin?

He could follow you there.

And I could lock him out

And be miserable.

“Papa Bear?”

The nickname sent a shiver down my spine, but I still didn’t speak.

“Blade?”

He knew my name. Or at least the name I’d been called for ages. Had he asked?

“Are you…”

“No talking.” That was the only way I’d be able to handle this.

His eyes widened. “That’s how you want it?” I growled, and he smiled. “Fuck, that’s hot.”

“Do I need to gag you?” Carlo licked his lips. There was no way in hell I was going to ever scare him off. “Do I?”

Finally, he shook his head.

I unbuttoned my pants and pulled out my cock. Without me telling him to, Carlo sank to his knees. When he stuck out his tongue and mimed licking my cock, I nodded. Sucking me off would keep him quiet for a while.

He moved closer, walking on his knees, and I gripped my cock so I could brush it over his lips. He groaned as he licked me, tasting my precum.

“Damn, you’re—”

I gripped his chin and used pressure from my thumb to encourage him to open his mouth.
