“I got the sense he’s planning to bring X in on it.”

“Wow. I bet his father will go ballistic. Men like that don’t want anything taken outside of the family.”

I nodded. “I want him to talk to Grant. We need a plan to help TJ stop Franco.”

Rogue raised his brows. “You want to get involved?”

“We’re already involved.”

“We’re protecting him. We’re not part of his family’s politics.”

I scowled at my twin. “We will be if they come after him.”

“We can send him back. We’re not here to join some fucking turf war.”

“We’re not sending him back.

“Oh, I see how it is.” He grinned, and I realized I’d played into his trap.

“We agreed to protect him, and we need all the information to be able to do that.”

“You wanted to get rid of him a few days ago.”

“I was pissed off.”

“And his dick cured you of that?”

“Don’t.”

“Or what?”

I took a deep breath, trying to calm down.

“I’m your ride or die, bro. You’re never going to get rid of me.”

“No, apparently, I’m not even going to get rid of the man who is bringing me nothing but trouble.”

“If he hurts you, I will see to that.”

“I can take care of myself. This is enough of a shitshow as it is. I don’t need you losing your temper with him.”

“I’m the easygoing twin, remember?”

“You’re easygoing right up until the point where you’re not, and then you’re more dangerous than I am.”

Very few people knew that, but it was true. Rogue had been the one who always fought back with our father. That was partly why I’d done what I had in the end. I knew I wouldn’t always be there to save him.

“You’re right about telling Grant. We should.”

“No, TJ should.”

“Do you think he’s going to agree to that?”

I hoped so. It would make things so much easier. “I’m at least going to give it a chance.”

“You always do like to play fair.”

“Let’s go.”

“I can handle this on my own.”

Rogue shook his head. “I don’t have time to wait for y’all to fuck for three or four hours before you get to the point. Grant will be back soon. We can talk to him while Jacob makes lunch.”

I rolled my eyes. “Jacob’s only been gone for a day. Are you already tired of making meals for yourself?”

“Our cooking is not in the same league as Jacob’s.”

That was true enough. “This is already not going to go well if I push him to talk to Grant, especially if he realizes you know about the situation too.”

“Did you really think I wouldn’t hear?”

“It’s one thing to know what we did last night, but it’s another to know about his family.”

Rogue waved off my concern and started walking toward the house. “I’m guessing he didn’t leave the house with you?”

“I don’t know where the hell he is. He may still be asleep in his room.”

I knocked on TJ’s door a few minutes later. It took a while, but eventually, he answered, wearing nothing but a towel around his waist. He was clearly fresh out of the shower.

“Don’t get any ideas,” Rogue said, muscling past me into the room. “We’re here to talk.”

TJ stared at my twin. “You told him? You said—”

“He heard us.”

TJ grinned. “I told you he would.”

At least he didn’t care about that part. “I also told him about your situation. You need to talk to Grant. He can help. We can help.”

TJ eyed me strangely. “You’re telling me you want to help me?”

“I want to clear up your problem so we can get you out of here and no trouble comes down on us.”

He studied me for a moment. “The best way to do that is to just send me home.

“Once we agree to protect somebody, we take it seriously,” Rogue said.

TJ shook his head. “I’ve got someone working on it.”

“X?” I asked.

He scowled at me. “How did you know?”

“You’re smart enough to go to the person with the best ability to do that, and there’s no one better than X.”

“True.”

“X trusts Grant with this operation, and he trusted him in the field. Grant is a damn good strategist.”

Rogue nodded. “I might not have been in the marines with them, but I know that’s true.”

“Your brother’s already had plenty of chances to impress me. If you think he needs to know, why didn’t you tell him already?”

“Because that’s for you to do.”

“Me? The guy you hate, a killer of innocents?”

“I never said you killed anyone innocent.”

“I haven’t, but Franco sure as hell has.”

“Then we need to bring him down.”

TJ shook his head. “There’s no ‘we’ in this.”

“Yes, there is,” Rogue said. “You’re here, you’re under our protection, and you’re in danger; therefore, it’s also our problem, and X is ultimately responsible for this place, so if you’re working with him, you’re working with us.”

I stepped over to the window, looked out, then glanced at Rogue.
