When Daisy Rae came back, her expression was one of fear. "I'm so sorry, Garion, but I need to leave. Uncle Nolan's been rushed to the hospital..."

GARION INSISTED ON personally driving Daisy Rae to the hospital and dropped her off at the lobby before heading out to the parking lot. Reception supplied her with the information she needed to find her uncle's room, and she found a frantic-looking Hilda seated in the waiting area.

"What took you so long?" her cousin demanded as she burst to her feet.

"I'm so sorry. How's Uncle Nolan?" Daisy Rae asked anxiously. "Is he okay? What happened?"

"All I know is that a couple of thugs got to him."

"Is he conscious?"

"The police are with him now," Hilda said curtly, "and they wanted to speak with him alone."

"I'm so, so sorry, Hil—-"

Her cousin cut her off, asking sharply, "Were you out all night with Garion Ross?"

Daisy Rae blinked at the sudden change of subject. "Um..."

"You couldn't have been," Hilda insisted. "Could you? And how do you know him, anyway?"

Daisy Rae was relieved to hear one question she could answer somewhat easily. "He's one of Mr. Calder's clients."

"And that's it?"

Daisy Rae wondered where all these questions were leading. Shouldn't they be talking about Hilda's father instead?

Hilda suddenly swayed on her feet, and Daisy Rae felt instantly guilty for questioning her cousin's behavior. "Are you alright?"

"Could you buy me something to drink? I think what happened to Daddy is just hitting me now...."

Daisy Rae's heart went out to her cousin upon hearing Hilda's shaken tone. "Of course." She guided the other girl back to her seat. "I'll be right back, just give me a minute."

Idiot, Hilda thought as she watched her stupid fat cousin hurry away. She wasn't really feeling dizzy at all, but having seen Garion Ross step out of the elevator, Hilda knew she had to quickly come up with an excuse that would leave her alone with the billionaire.

Garion turned away from the nurses' station and almost walked straight into Daisy Rae's cousin.

"Hi there."

The huskiness of her tone nearly made his lip curl, but Garion managed to keep his tone polite as he asked, "How's your father?"

"I really don't know." Hilda made her voice tremble just a bit. "He's still being questioned by the police."

Garion forced himself to nod even though he knew everything Hilda had just said was crap. The detective he had hired was thorough as fuck, and Garion had photographic evidence that could prove Nolan had actually paid people to beat him up.

"I'm so scared, Garion."

The billionaire's expression remained bland.

"I don't think I can be alone right now..." Hilda let her gaze trail down until she was staring at his crotch. Sorry, cuz, but winners always rule, and losers like you are always doomed.

This had always been enough to have men lusting after her, but when she lifted her head, Hilda was stunned to find Garion's expression unchanged. Maybe he hadn't noticed where she was looking at earlier? Perhaps she needed to do it again?

Daisy Rae finally got back to her cousin, and she nearly dropped the bottle of green tea in her hand when she saw where her cousin was staring, followed by the bland expression on Garion's face.

Oh gosh.

Hazel eyes turned to her then, and she could only gulp back a laugh at the exasperation in his gaze. Do I tell her off or would you like the honor of doing so?

She bit her lip. Neither?

He raised a brow. So you're just going to let another woman stare at your future husband's cock?

Daisy Rae smiled weakly. Or we can just pretend neither of us saw anything?

Hilda finally lifted her gaze back up to the billionaire, but instead of finally realizing what a desirable woman she was, the gorgeous but stupid man only had eyes for her cousin.

What the hell?

Guys always chose her over Daisy Rae, and the billionaire should've felt the same way. So why didn't he?

Daisy Rae hurried forward when she remembered Cha-Cha's warning about Garion getting "nasty" when losing his temper.

"Here you go, Hilda," she said brightly as she handed her cousin the bottle of green tea. "How are you feeling?"

"Much better," Hilda said shamelessly, "now that Garion—-"

The door to her uncle's room finally opened, and Daisy Rae was relieved to have an excuse to keep her cousin from saying anything else.

A pair of police officers stepped out, and one of them looked at her in question. "Are you Daisy Rae Aldrick?"

"Um, yes—-"

"Your uncle wants to speak to you...alone."

Garion's jaw clenched upon hearing this. A part of him wanted to warn her that nothing of this was true, but he knew better than to make the same mistake twice. Fear had made him distrust her this morning, but this time would be different.

This time, Garion intended to show Daisy Rae that he trusted her, and that was why all he did was pull her close when he saw her glance at him uncertainly.
