Needless to say, we moved. After all, as much as I loved that house, and as much as it brought me to Mason, it was my past. I bought that house with my ex-husband, and with Carl and Vanessa still right next door, Mason and I both readily agreed we needed a change.
So, we moved to Malibu, to a much, much larger house on the ocean. Oh, and it’s got a great pool.
It’s been two years since the boy next door waltzed into my backyard like sex on a stick and blew my world apart. And since then, watching him grow into the man he was meant to be has been incredible. With my funding and a little bit of my guidance, Mason’s taken his—well, our—company into the freaking stars. The company quickly became the payment processor for online stores, and we’re getting offers almost daily from enormous companies to scoop us up.
Yeah, it’s pretty freaking hard to say no to a check for two billion dollars from Google, but I know what Mason built is worth more than any acquisition would ever offer us. And so does he.
His parents ended up splitting up not too long after the whole thing. Vanessa we haven’t heard a peep from, but it turns out, Carl isn’t quite the shithead she is. He’s not exactly warm and fuzzy yet, but he’s at least made some really serious inroads into making up with his son, and to me, which I respect. I think we were both skeptical at first about Carl’s intentions, seeing how much Mason is worth now. But his apologies have been sincere, and he’s made it very, very clear that he wants no part of what his son has built.
