I walk over beside him feeling my heart beating in my chest.

“Beauty everywhere I look,” he softly says as he turns to me.

I swallow hard under the intensity of those beautiful blue eyes, wondering if he’s going to kiss me. My mouth waters as I look at his lips, remembering the taste of them.

“Drinks!” I say, suddenly stepping away from him and turning to the bar. “Can I get you a drink? What would you like? I have beer and wine and everything really. Beer. I have beer. Did I say that already?”

“Beer sounds delicious,” he says with a warm smile.

I’m a bit nervous. I’m all fidgety and I can’t seem to stand still. I’ve never done this before—bring a man back to my place.

I’m freaking out a little.

I open the mini fridge behind the bar and wince when I see some beer cans that I think were here when I moved in. I’m not much of a drinker. I’m not even sure if these have expired. Does beer expire?

I take two out, taking the chance.

“Have you lived here long?” he asks as I crack open the cans and pour them into glasses. I nearly spill one when I see him coming over, approaching like a silver fox panther. He’s so smooth. Everything about him is smooth from his looks, to his clothes, to his movements, to the way he paid the bill at the restaurant. He’s an experienced man who knows how to do it all.

“About seven years,” I say as I hand him the beer.

I hold my breath as he takes a sip, but even if it tastes horrible, he smiles and plays it off like it’s good.

“I’ve been to Cincinnati a handful of times.”

“How do you like it?”

“Much better now that I know you’re here.”

I’m feeling flustered as he watches me while he takes another sip. This man is making me dizzy. My brain seems to be glitching all kinds. It’s a new feeling for me and I don’t quite know how to handle it.

I’m usually good around men. I am a boss in a male-dominated field. I’ve called them into my office, chewed them out, fired them, hired them, inspired them… I’ve done everything but have sex with them.

I’m thirty-four, but it’s never happened.

I spent the last decade and a half glued to my father’s side and no one was going to try to get in my pants with Samuel MacIntosh staring them down.

I could have tried. I mean, there were hundreds of hockey players over the years and I’ve met all sorts of men from around the country who work in the hockey industry.

But I don’t know… None of them really did much for me. I’m not into athletes. I’m into intellect and experience and wisdom.

Brantley has all those in spades.

I never thought I’d be attracted to an older man, but now that it’s happened, it makes total sense. I always found the boys around me so immature. I found them so annoying with the way they always tried to impress me.

But this man doesn’t need to try. Everything about him is impressive.

He’s incredible.

“How rude of me,” I say as I put down my beer. “I didn’t give you a tour. Would you like one?”

“I’d love one,” he says with a heated smile.

I get a little shiver as we head into the dining room. I have a long table that comfortably seats twelve, but I rarely have anyone over.

“Beautiful table,” he says as he runs his hand over the engravings on the side. “I’ve never seen anything like it.”

“I bought it in Tuscany,” I say, loving that he noticed it. It’s one of my favorite things I own. The wood is hundreds of years old and has more history than anything built in this city. “It was part of an old church that was burnt down by the French in the fifteen hundreds. Someone refurbished the door and turned it into this table. I happened to wander into an estate sale while on vacation over there and fell in love with it.”

“I can see why,” he says as he runs his hand over the craftsmanship. “It’s lovely.”

“Thank you.”

“Just like you.”

He stands up and turns to me with a fire in his light blue eyes. His eyes roam over my body, lingering on my chest, and then on my legs, and hips. He’s not even trying to hide his desire now. He seems to be deciding if we should continue on with the tour or have sex right here on this historic table.

When he steps forward and slides his hand on my hip, I know the tour is over.

“You’re more than lovely,” he says as he gets in close, his sexy cologne filling my lungs and making me dizzy. “You’re irresistible.”

His other hand wraps around my arm and his thumb slides along my skin. It feels like tiny licks of fire igniting wherever he touches.
