Yes, I do know what she’s talking about.

She isn’t talking about my looming Belgravia residency, or about the fact that my entire belongings are holed up in Josh’s apartment – along with me until I get the keys to my new place. She’s talking about the fact that my boyfriend is on his way to fuck someone else, right this second. A filthy bitch in her early forties, who wants his monster of a cock in every hole. My boyfriend will be coming home later, fresh out of his filthy playtime, and I’ll be there, admiring the leftovers.

I can still just about see him walking down the street away from us, dressed like a superstar, in a jet-black suit and tie. He won’t be wearing it for long, that’s for sure. He showed me his proposal earlier, and she wants a lot from him.

At least she’s paying a lot of cash for the pleasure.

There’s such a mash of emotions in my stomach, now reality has really hit me. Intrigue, jealousy, fear… lust, greed, envy. So many ‘sins’ tumbling around in my psyche.

At least I’m on the way to the pizza place. Might as well add gluttony to the list.

I wish I didn’t feel this way, but I do. Knowing Josh was an entertainer like me seemed no big deal when I was in Australia. It was so much easier via distant messaging, but now I’m here, up close and personal, and emotionally invested. It’s… different.

I choose to be honest with Tiff as well as Josh.

“It’s weird, knowing he’s going to be out tonight, fucking a woman who wants him, but that’s life and that’s our job. I guess I’ll get used to it. I mean, I do it myself, and that isn’t going to change how I feel about Josh. It’s no big deal, right?”

I love the care in her eyes.

“Hmm, on paper, no, it’s no big deal at all, but it might take some getting used to, especially since your ex fucked some little bitch behind your back and left you in the shit like an asshole. But, yeah, it’ll be ok with Josh. There’s a forum thread about this kind of thing in the Agency chat group. It’s a pretty common theme, unsurprisingly. People struggle to work through the partner situation all the time. Loads of them come out of the other side of it.”

“I’ve been talking to Ebony about it, and she says it became normal for her pretty quickly. Her husband is cool with it, no matter who she’s fucking. He barely bats an eyelid now, apparently. Barely even asks about her proposals.”

“No doubt it becomes normal, and they do great with it, but they weren’t hurting after a betrayal when it started up, were they?”

“Good point.”

I get a flash of Connor’s face, and remember the horror of realising he’d been putting his dick in someone else.

“Call it another learning curve,” Tiff says. “You’re doing just fine.”

“Thanks for the vote of confidence. And how about Josh? He’s had the betrayal situation a lot closer to home than I have. Do you think he’s going to be alright with it? With me being an entertainer like she was?”

“Trust me, Ells. I know Josh. He might be a true Adonis, with the sexual appetite of a Duracell bunny on speed and an amazing cock to satisfy it. Yeah, he’s proud to have a ladder any girl would gladly offer up a limb for a chance at climbing, but he’s also a gentleman. He’s pragmatic, and I’ve never met anyone so solid.”

I laugh. “That’s nice. And funny… fucking like a rabbit on speed. He can certainly go some.”

“And the best thing of all,” Tiff says as we reach the pizza place, “he really wants you, doesn’t ever shut up about you. I tell you, he’d walk through fire for you.”

“You think?”

“I know,” she says, looking me in the eye. “I know Josh.”

“That’s good, then,” I tell his best friend. “I want him so much I’d walk through fire, too.”

“Now, that’s what I like to hear. Maybe Ebony and I will be getting the wedding hats after all.”

I roll my eyes at her before she grabs my arm and drags me into the pizza house.

“Hi, Bri,” she says to the sweet looking dark-haired girl behind the counter. “This is Ella. She’s moving into the west wing next week. She’s Josh’s girlfriend.” She turns to me. “Ella, this is Briony. She’s from the tower over by Central line. She’s mega cool. She’s dating Vince, on the second floor of our tower.”

It’s obvious that Tiff is a character that could make friends with anyone, and it’s obvious from the flash in Briony’s eyes that she knows exactly what the score is.

“So, where is Josh? Is he out with clients tonight?” she asks, and I’m flummoxed by how up front she is. I don’t know what to say.
