“What?”

“She was so mortified that I caught her licking her lips.” My chest puffs up, and the riled-up jealousy I felt yesterday eases.

I don’t get much of a reprieve from that situation when I head back to the office, only to find Bryan’s truck outside the building. What the hell is he doing here after he was supposed to be working with his team somewhere else, not anywhere near my fucking woman.

“You need to stay away from Taylor; she’s mine.”

“She’s too young for you, and she’s your employee. What do you think the public will think of your relationship with her?”

“I don’t give a fuck what they think. I love her, and that’s all that matters. I put it off long enough. Now if you don’t do your fucking job, I’ll find someone else to do it, and I’ll have you out of a job really quick.”

“Is that a threat?” He steps in my face, getting close so that I can feel his breath on my chin.

“No, it’s a promise, and if I was you, I’d back the fuck up before I take this as an act of violence because I’ll file a complaint, or you can throw a punch, and I’ll wipe the floor with you.”

“You’re a waste of time. I’ll have her when you’re voted out of office after they learn about your behavior, and she doesn’t want your loser ass.” He shoves past me and storms out of my office. My eyes darted to my assistant, who was holding her tablet to her chest as a shield.

“What’s wrong, sweetheart? What did he say to you?”

“Nothing. I just don’t want you to get in trouble because of me,” she sobs. I take away the tablet and pull her into my arms.

“I’m not going to get in trouble because of you.”

“You don’t know that, Brooks. It’s against the rules. I’m pretty sure of it.” Tears fell from her blue eyes.

“I don’t give a shit if they want me to resign because I’m screwing the woman I love. Let them.”

“You love me?”

“Yes, of course I do. Our town is drenched beneath our feet, and all I can think about is getting my face soaked between your thighs. You’re mine, and I’ve been fighting this urge since the day you bravely came into my hospital room, wanting to speak with me.” I brush my lips across her forehead. “I love you so much, Taylor.”

“I love you, Brooks.” She throws her arms around my neck and wraps her legs around my waist.

“That’s what I want to hear. Now kiss me because I’m done with your tears. I only want to hear and see your pleasure.”

Our mouths collide in a slow, passionate kiss, promise and devotion dominating our moment. Quickly, we began to shift into a frenzied need, but then I remembered that we had a lot to do. As I pulled away, my phone rang, and it was my head of security. “Sir, the local reporters are on their way up to see you. I tried to stop them, but there’s a situation down here.”

“It’s fine. I can take their interview.” Ending the call, I inform Taylor of our impending guests.

I adjusted her dress, but she pushed my hand away. “I’ve got it. Fix yourself.” She points to my cock that’s nearly about to tear through my slacks. “We don’t need reporters seeing your goods.”

“You’re right. It’s only for you, babe.”

Chapter Eight

Taylor

We had only got ourselves properly straightened up, and Brooks had gotten behind his desk, and I had my tablet in hand when his office door opened up, and a group of reporters entered unannounced. “Well, isn’t this appropriate? Since when is this allowed? Please, do come in.” His security comes in with an apologetic expression, attempting to hold them back, but Brooks waves his hand. “Mayor, we received information that you and your assistant were seen having a lover’s quarrel outside, and you carried her away. Is that true?”

He shakes his head, and I wonder if he’s going to flat-out deny our relationship. “I wouldn’t call it a lover’s quarrel. I wanted everyone out there to see that she belonged to me. Given the storm and the dangerous situation that put us all in, I’ve come to realize that Miss Phillips is more than just my assistant. My feelings for her are ones I’ve never felt before, and now I have finally told her.”

Brooks reaches across the desk and takes my hand in his. “Soon we’ll be getting married. Whether that ends my career doesn’t matter to me because all that matters is Taylor and the family that we create. I’ve always loved Sweet Temptation Bay, and it has always been my home, but my love for Taylor trumps everything. Now, if you’ll excuse this, we have some crisis management to take care of.” He stands and releases his grip.
