“I wanna see how they did that shit.” I was surprised because of their sizes that they were even able to escape the playpen let alone make it through the first gate. I hit replay on the monitor and watched the great escape, as it should henceforth be known.

I watched as Cady as usual made the first move. She made a few attempts to climb up the sides and fell flat on her ass, but once she got the hang of it, she threw herself over the top and climbed onto the damn dog’s back. He looked like he’d been waiting there for just that purpose.

Her sisters looked like they were cheering her on, jumping and clapping on their stubby little legs and fuck if the dog didn’t go back to help them next. Then they got to work on the gate. I would’ve loved to blame the dog but he was just the lookout. It was my damn kids that were responsible for this mess.

We made sure the gates were too high, with no wriggle room beneath. She fucking found the latch at the top and pushed it up. After the third attempt the damn dog used his muzzle to push it open the rest of the way. “If my kid had fallen down those stairs I’d have sued these fu…” Childproof my ass.

They didn’t even look apologetic. The three of them and their partner in crime just tore around my office once they were put down on the floor and I had to go online to find some shit that would keep their little asses contained. Ain’t this a bitch!

“Damn, do they all do that shit?”

“Well, yeah Logan. You guys haven’t researched this shit yet? Oh there’s a whole lot they can get up to before they can talk or even walk. You have to keep your eyes peeled twenty-four seven. It’s a wonder mine survived as long as they have as much shit as they can get up to.”

I looked at the kid who’d just pretty much sealed the deal of becoming part of the family. “With college and all these big ideals I’m guessing you two are no way ready for this kind of responsibility.” The little shit didn’t even blink.

Todd

That evening when I picked Caitie up I didn’t tell her about the life changing conversation I’d had with her dad, but it was hard to hide my excitement. All through dinner which the men cooked before the women returned from their day out I was on pins and needles.

I wasn’t sure if I should be there when they had their talk but it worked out anyway because Mancini had something new he wanted me to try in our hunt for the truck. So I made my excuses after dinner.

When she stood to follow me her dad stopped her. “Not tonight Caitlin, I need to talk to you.” I knew from the look on her face that she thought he’d found out what we’d been doing, so I leaned over and whispered in her ear.

“It’s good baby, don’t be afraid.” She relaxed at my words but still pouted at the fact that we weren’t going to get to spend the night together. I was just as disappointed as she as because of the break in my little seduction program, but it was for a worthy cause.

I had no doubt that she was going to put the finishing touches on what I’d already started so I headed out with total confidence. Mancini had been able to work out the coordinates of where the picture of the truck was taken somewhat and I was headed over to that neighborhood with the special equipment he’d had flown in from New York.

This was my first time going out on my own but it wasn’t as dangerous as anything I’d done so far so I wasn’t worried. I’d just be sitting in my truck listening into what was going on in the houses around me. Not in a creeper way of course, it was just so I could pinpoint the house where the truck might’ve been going.

Colt had given the image to his father in law days ago unbeknownst to me but I was glad he’d done that. It kinda took the pressure off of me feeling like if I failed that woman or girl’s life would end because of my fuck up.

As time went by as I sat in my parked truck in a little park at the head of the street I was itching to call her to find out what had happened between her and her dad, but I figured she’d call me once they were done. Unless things didn’t go as I expected.

I looked at my watch, two hours had gone by and so far all I’d picked up was a mother screaming at her kids to get ready for bed, an old couple discussing some TV show, and some regular shit you’d expect to hear in a normal household.
