My feelings for her were wholesome and though I’ve always wanted her I was willing to wait because I knew I had to or her dad would maim me. So how is it that a simple walk around the neighborhood had unleashed this shit? Not just in me, but in her as well from the looks of it.

Where had all this sexual energy in the air come from? I am so fucked. Her dad’s gonna sense it for sure. One look and he’d know what’s on my mind. And now it seems that no matter how I try, I can’t get my mind to go back to the way things were just a few minutes ago.

Oh yeah, it’s obvious that I’ve only been kidding myself; I am indeed scared shitless of Colton Lyon. Because the man is the only thing that can stand in the way of my dreams.

As we got closer to her house I saw a strange vehicle parked in the driveway. A very slick looking guy was helping a very pregnant woman out of the passenger seat. “Uncle Hank, Aunty Cierra.” She ran towards them cheerfully and the man turned and caught her up in his arms, spinning her around.

I growled in my lungs when she grinned and he kissed her forehead as I caught up to them. “Caitlin!” I pulled her back away from him putting her behind me all the while glaring at him while the woman broke out in laughter. “Oh this is priceless. Hello sweetheart.” The woman kissed her cheek grinning all the while. “Come on Hank before I have to save you.”

We had a little staring skirmish before he gave me a condescending look and turned to follow his woman into the house.

“Who’s that guy? I don’t remember seeing him here over the holidays.”

“That’s uncle Hank, I told you about him remember?”

“Hmm!” It was on the tip of my tongue to remind her that he wasn’t really her uncle but…fuck it.

“Don’t jump into his arms like that again.”

“What?” Her mouth fell open wide enough to catch flies. “I almost decked that guy, don’t do that again.” She was as surprised as I was at my outburst.

“Todd, he’s old enough to be my dad! I think.”

“Doesn’t matter, I didn’t like it.” She pushed her arm through mine with that infectious grin on her face and we made our way to the door. I think I might’ve lost my mind on that walk. Odd as it seems, I don’t feel like the same guy who left her house with her just a short while ago.

Inside the guy and his wife were already in the living room with the Lyons and they all looked up when we walked in. Catalina was squeezed in between the two of them with a look of excitement on her face while the boys sat around the room hair wet, fresh from their showers. One of the triplets who’d been placed on the floor on some kind of activity mat saw us and made a beeline in our direction.

I thought for sure she was heading for her sister but imagine my surprise when I felt her little hands tugging on my pants leg. I looked down to see this toothless little beauty smiling up at me. If there’s anything that scares me more than Colton Lyon, it’s his kids. The fear of doing anything that might be conceived as harmful.

The boys are okay, I’ve spent plenty of time rough housing with them in the past, or teaching them how to play ball. But the girls, no way. I felt all the eyes in the room on me though so had no choice but to reach down and pick her up.

Her arms clamped down around my neck, and her head went to my shoulder. “That’s Cady!” I looked at Caitie who was still standing next to me.

“How do you know? How can you tell them apart?” I looked from the little girl in my arms to the other two who were still rolling around on the mat with their brother Cody.

“She’s the most outgoing of the three.”

“You kids are back, good; it’s almost time for dinner. Todd, why don’t you help Caitlin set the table?” Mrs. Lyon got up from her seat with a smile while her husband growled and shot daggers at me with his eyes.

“Oh by the way Todd, these are our friends, Hank and Cierra Mancini.”

“Mancini?” I barely caught myself as my eyes flew to the sinister grin on his face. I walked over to shake his hand while his wife gave me a knowing look.

“Pleased to meet you sir.” There were three frogs in my throat. I don’t know why I expected him to be older, and not so… clean cut I guess.

“If you say so!” I guess I wasn’t as circumspect as I thought earlier. He’d caught my reaction to him putting his hands on my girl.
