Declan agreed and washed his hands.

“He’s always treated me like I’m just plain old Sebastian. He doesn’t care that I’m famous.”

“The good ones won’t,” she replied.

The three of us finished up dinner together, and then everyone ate in the dining room, the kids at a smaller table. After we had dessert and everything was cleaned up, Brooke, Ollie, and their families headed home. I could tell Declan was likely on people overload, so I stretched and said, “I think we’re going to bed early. It’s been a long few days.”

“I figured as much,” Dad replied. “Sleep well, boys. I hope you both plan to be up early in the morning to help with the animals.”

“Of course,” Declan replied.

Mom hugged us, and then we were on our way. I’d taken our bags up earlier, so they were waiting beside the bed. As soon as the door closed, Declan said, “Oh my God. I’m still losing my shit over the fact that your mom is listening to The Vers.”

“There’s no stopping her now.”

“I could always tell Marcus to pull the show off-line…”

I laughed, walked over to him, and wrapped my arms around him. “I loved today,” I admitted. “I loved seeing you with my family. I could get used to this.”

Declan answered by lowering his mouth to mine and kissing me, his hair tickling my forehead. His mouth trailed down my throat, then over to my ear, where he sucked the lobe, then whispered softly, “I could get used to it too.”

CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR

Declan

I felt like I was in a made-for-TV movie, those sweet, wholesome ones that always take place in small towns and are big on family, only in this one, the youngest child is a gay movie star with a bar-owning boyfriend, and the family accepted both of us unconditionally.

Not that I’d never seen healthy, happy families, because I had. One of the fosters I’d been with had been great. They were the kind of people who ate dinner together at the table every night and talked about their day. Then my parents had gotten me back, so that didn’t last. Parker’s mom died when he was young, and while his dad had his struggles, he loved Parker fiercely. Marcus’s parents loved him, they just weren’t the type who said it much. While Corbin’s family were nice, I’d never felt totally comfortable with them. They loved and accepted him, but they often talked to him about his soul and were naive about the world in many ways. Corbin never acted like Corbin around them.

We’d been here a couple of days now, and every morning Sebastian and I got up and worked on the farm with his dad and his brother. We all had dinner together at night, and we went places together during the day. Sebastian and I went with his parents into Boise to do some exploring. They’d seen it all, of course, but they went for me, just to show me the city Sebastian grew up close to. It was wild as fuck. I wasn’t sure if these people were real.

It was late on the third night, and I couldn’t sleep. Sebastian was snoring softly beside me, which was kinda cute. I mean, what the fuck was that? Who in the hell thought someone snoring was cute? All this shit he made me feel was weird and confusing, but I liked it. If I had the choice, I wouldn’t want all this shmoopiness to go away, and that made me feel like I might throw up but also like I was the luckiest sonofabitch in the world.

Like now, I was lying here watching him. The moon shined through the window. Sebastian was on his back, scruff along his jaw and his full lips slightly parted. I wanted to kiss them and wake him up to ask him what he was doing to me, and yeah, I really wanted to fuck him too.

But I also didn’t want to get caught staring at him like a creeper, and it was clear sleep was evading me, so I slipped out of bed, grabbed my phone, and quietly left the room. I was going to call Parker because that’s just what I did, but when I made my way downstairs and into the kitchen, I was surprised to see his dad there. The plan was to sneak back upstairs, but mid-turn, Harold glanced my way. “Couldn’t sleep?”

“No, sir.”

“Come in and sit down. I have cookies. I hide them from Marcie because she’s always talking to me about eating better, blah, blah, blah. She’s also the one who makes incredible fried chicken and mashed-potato balls that are to die for. Why can we eat fried foods but not cookies?”

I chuckled, wishing I could slink away but not wanting to be an asshole. Not that I didn’t like him. I just didn’t know what to say to Sebastian’s parents when it was just us, and I didn’t want to fuck something up.
