Their dinner came, again ordered by Pearl, and they dined on fresh lobster and filet. It was his favorite, so his mother at least got that right. Over dessert, Caroline fed Dune bites of caramel mousse, and then leaned toward him. He captured her mouth, enjoying the taste of the sweet dessert on her lips.

“I really like you,” he told her.

“I like you too.”

He kissed her again, not caring if anyone saw them. The dim lighting kept everyone fairly hidden, but he was past the point of caring. Dune wanted everyone to know they were together. No more wondering if they were an item or not.

“This has been the best night of my life,” she told him in between soft pecks.

“Mine, too.” He brushed her hair away from her face. “This has been one of my best summers.”

“It’s still early.” She laughed.

“Eh,” Dune said with a slight shrug. “I’ve had enough summers to know when they’re going to be good or not.”

When the bill came, Dune gladly put down the family credit card. True to his word, he was making his mom pay for their dinner. He didn’t have a problem paying but wanted to send a message. All he asked her for was a reservation, the above and beyond was a bit too much.

Outside, they walked along the waterfront. It was the perfect night to be out. The night air was still warm from earlier, there were a lot of people out, and the walkway along the pier was lit up.

When they were outside the Sea Shanty, he nodded toward the building. “Wanna go in?”

Caroline squealed with laughter and thanked him. He would probably regret it later, but tonight, he’d go in and have some fun with the woman who made his heart skip a beat.

Despite the loud music coming from inside, the door creaked when Dune held it open for Caroline. Even though he hated this place, mostly because of their overpriced drinks, he had to give the Sea Shanty credit. They had a wicked cool name and most of the interior came from old shipwrecks. The wide planked flooring bowed and dipped in places and had turned every shade of brown, black, gray, and green from being in the water, and then out in the sun. The scent of rum and sea salt mingled in the air and added to the mystic of the bars name. Many tall-tales originated at the Sea Shanty—whatever had to be done to keep the people coming in—about countless sailors who had passed through the door. The ceiling was low, making Dune feel claustrophobic. Tattered fishing nets, lobster traps, rusty anchors and other “sunken” treasure hung from the exposed beams.

This was where Dune had his first legal beer. It was a rite of passage for newly minted twenty-one-year-olds in Seaport and by the looks of it, the bar was full of them. In a way, Caroline coming here made sense now. She held his hand and pulled him toward a table, the grin on her face telling him everything he needed to know—this small gesture made her happy—and that’s all that mattered to him.

Caroline nestled into Dune’s warm embrace. They had slept with the window open, and the air had cooled through the night. Neither of them bothered to get up and shut the window, instead opting to stay in each other’s arms for warmth. Caroline rolled over and pressed her back into Dune’s chest, and pulled his arms tightly around her.

Dune nuzzled Caroline’s neck and pressed his hips closer to hers, letting her know that despite the early morning hour, he was very much awake. She stirred slightly, but didn’t fully wake, even when his hand began to slowly explore her body.

Caroline moaned as Dune’s touch awakened her senses. She turned to face him. He leaned in and their lips met in a feverish kiss, their tongues exploring each other’s mouths. Without breaking the kiss, Dune reached down to cup her breast, feeling her nipple harden beneath his hand. Caroline gasped into his mouth, arching her back and pushing herself further into Dune’s touch.

Dune pushed the blankets away, kicking them to the foot of the bed. Caroline’s skin pebbled from the cold air, but she didn't care. Being cold was the furthest thing from her mind with what Dune was doing to her right now.

He slid his hand down between her legs and groaned. “You're already fucking wet for me,” he said, against her lips. She moaned softly, wrapping her arms around him as she returned the kiss with equal fervor.

Dune gracefully rolled over Caroline, settling himself between her legs. He paused and looked into her eyes, melting in their depths as his desire for her rose. In one smooth movement, he found the entrance to her body and entered her, filling her completely, going deeper with each thrust. Dune’s heated body felt like a furnace against hers. Caroline wrapped her legs around his waist, urging him deeper.
