She stood and drew her shift over her head and tossed it aside and stepped toward her husband and he spread his legs to welcome her close.

“Tonight, there is only you and me and our love. No problems. No worries. Only love.” She bent her head to capture her husband’s lips in a much-needed kiss.

Varrick’s hands settled on her backside, giving it a gentle squeeze as he eased her closer to him and he fell back on the bed, taking his wife with him, their lips still locked in a kiss.

Fia felt his manhood grow hard against her and it inflamed her own passion, though only the tiniest of sparks were needed to ignite her passion for her husband and send it soaring.

Varrick held her firm, tugging her bottom tight against him and she raised her hips rubbing eagerly against his swollen shaft, anxious for him to enter her. But he would not rush. He wanted more than a quick tryst tonight. He wanted to enjoy every inch of her.

He released her bottom, moving his hands beneath her arms and raising her off him to hold her above him just enough so he could feast on her breasts that dangled enticingly in his face.

“Varrick,” she whispered softly, her eyes gazing gently upon him.

“You are all mine, wife, and I expect you to obey my every word tonight,” he commanded.

Seeing the passion running hot in his blue eyes and feeling it mingle with her own had her saying, “Aye, my lord.”

He lowered her on top of him and with one arm wrapped around her waist, he moved them both to stretch out lengthwise on the bed, then settled on his side to face her. His hand reached out to touch her so lightly that it felt like he stroked her body ever so slowly with a feather.

“Your skin is so soft. I love touching it and even more so kissing it,” he said and proceeded to do just that.

“Varrick,” she moaned, with a slight plea, and continued to moan as he rained kisses all over her. That was until his tongue settled wickedly on a spot that had her crying out, “VARRICK!”

He did not stop. He flicked and teased until…

“Please, Varrick, I can wait no longer,” she pleaded.

“Then come for me, wife,” he urged.

His tongue and fingers worked together to drive her over the edge and when she screamed out, he stopped and entered her with a hard plunge that had her scream grow louder.

Wave after wave of intense pleasure exploded throughout her body and the way he pounded into her only intensified them. She felt as if she was tumbled and tossed in the most exquisite pleasure, enjoying every intense moment of it. And when she thought it was done, she felt her husband’s release and enjoyed the pleasure once again.

After when their breathing was no longer labored, they lay side by side, in silence, their hands holding tight, a fine sheen of sweat on their bodies, and a light chill touching them.

Varrick embraced the silence. No words were necessary, their lovemaking had spoken louder than words could. And so, he lay there, keeping hold of his wife’s hand more content than he ever thought possible. More in love than he ever thought possible. More ready to do anything he had to do to keep his wife safe.

A son has taken root. Born when the leaves fall from the trees.

She gasped at the news and rushed her free hand to her stomach.

“What is it?’ Varrick asked, concerned she had suddenly taken ill.

“Your seed has taken root. A son will be born to us when the leaves fall from the trees.”

The news so stunned him that he could only say, “Truly?”

“Aye, truly. Our first child will be a son,” Fia confirmed, happier than she could ever imagine.

He smiled, his heart swelling with love for his wife and the tiny seed that would flourish and grow inside her. He shook his head suddenly, fear rushing at him. “Tell no one, at least not yet. Not until I know for certain none believe you a witch.”

“Aye, it is for you and me alone to know, though things must be settled before too long, for my stomach will round and it will be a secret no more.” She yawned and shivered.

The problems of the day had exhausted her, and he hurried several blankets over them both and wrapped himself around her, to chase the slight chill from her body and to keep her close, keep her safe… keep their child safe. He would not fail them. Never would he fail them.

He closed his eyes and with a firm hold on his wife, he fell asleep.

CHAPTER 26

“You will remain in the keep today,” Varrick ordered the next morning as they ate breakfast. Her safety concerned him but even more so now that she was with child. He kept his voice low but stern, his words not meant to be heard by the few warriors sitting at the tables and stern so that his wife understood his order was to be obeyed without question.
