“I’m gonna come again,” Carys murmured.

“Oh, fuck, yes.”

Greta watched her writhe on the bed, and the first whimper shot through Greta like a bolt of lightning. She thrust her hips and felt the orgasm gather like a storm, rolling through her slowly at first, then striking with full force. She didn’t know how she stayed upright as it rocked her and was only vaguely aware of the sounds that her pleasure tore from her.

When she could move again, she flopped on top of Carys and buried her face in Carys’ neck. “Oh my fucking god.”

“You wanna go for one more?”

“Um? Yeah?”

Carys draped herself over Greta and handed her the Magic Wand.

They held it together and Greta spread her legs and let the toy rumble through her orgasm-primed flesh. For a moment, it was too much, then she pressed it to her opening and felt the vibrations in a whole new way. It happened fast. This orgasm was quiet and gutting, pulling her into the dark as stars exploded behind her eyes, and she buried her face in the pillow.

When Greta returned to earth, she found Carys watching her with soft eyes.

“Wow,” was all she could find to say.

Carys smiled and brushed her hair back. For glorious minutes, Greta luxuriated under Carys’ touch until she slowly surfaced. Carys smelled sweet and vibrant, and Greta wished she could stay here forever, being stroked like a favored pet. Then her stomach growled.

“Are you hungry? I’m hungry,” Carys said.

Greta’s stomach growled again and she groaned at it.

“I’ll grab us something,” Carys said with a smile and a squeeze of Greta’s knee.

She wrapped herself in a seafoam-green and cream dressing gown patterned with cranes and swept out of the room.

“Where,” Greta said to the spangled ceiling, “the fuck am I.”

She let herself drift on the sea of satisfaction and relaxation but was yanked from it by the ring of her phone. It was Adelaide.

“Hey,” Greta said, stretching luxuriantly.

“Dude,” her twin said. “You’ve gotta be the tiebreaker. Sadie wants to turn Mom and Dad’s photo book into a video, but I think the book is better. Tillie likes both, obviously, and Maggie doesn’t like either.”

“Well, I’m not there, so I’m not gonna be able to help turn it into a video. If Sadie wants to do it, I don’t mind. Not like she has anything better to do.”

It was Sadie who answered. “What a refreshingly mean thing to say. Oh, wait, you’re always like this.”

Greta cringed. “Oops. Hey, Sadie. Addie, let this be your one millionth reminder that you have to tell people if they’re on conference.”

“You’re not! You’re just on speaker. Sorry.”

“Same point!”

The door opened, and Carys walked in. Greta mouthed Sorry and pointed to her phone. My sisters.

Carys waved it away and settled back on the bed with a plate of bread, cheese, and grapes. All Greta wanted was to sit with her and eat and talk.

“Guys, I gotta go, okay? Do whatever you want. I’m out this year.”

“Wait, out out?” Adelaide asked. “But you’ll be home for Chanukah?”

“No. I told you, I’m staying for a month.”

Carys put a hand on Greta’s back and rubbed softly.

“But…Chanukah.”

Her twin’s voice sounded like she was ten years old again and Greta didn’t want to have matching costumes for the first time at Halloween.

Greta pressed into Carys’ hand and rolled her eyes.

“Dude, I told you this at the beginning,” she reminded Adelaide.

“But I didn’t think you meant Chanukah too!”

She sounded genuinely distraught. They’d never spent a holiday apart. Greta felt a twinge of longing underneath the habitual guilt.

“Sorry, Addie. I gotta go, though. I love you.”

She ended the call before Adelaide could reply.

“Sorry,” she said to Carys. “This looks great.”

“Everything okay?”

“Yeah. Every year for Chanukah, we all get my parents a group present. It’s been that way since we were little. And every year, it’s this whole thing because Sadie tries to control it and doesn’t want the rest of our ideas but then gets angry if we don’t do the work she wants us to do. So inevitably with, like, a week to go until Chanukah, we get it done and it’s never exactly the way she wanted, but my parents always act like it’s the greatest gift they’ve ever received.”

Carys cocked her head. “Is that bad?”

“No, no. I’m just saying the stakes are low.”

Carys nodded and handed her a piece of bread and cheese drizzled with honey.

Greta bit into it, and the tastes exploded in her mouth. Earthy grain of bread, the nuttiness of an unfamiliar cheese, and mellow sweetness of honey.

“Holy shit, this is heavenly.”

“I’m glad you like it. Veronica keeps bees over at this community garden a few blocks away, and she makes the honey.”

“I’ve always wanted to see the honey from real bees.”

“I’m sure Veronica’d be happy to take you with her.”

“I would love that.”
