Camille, I finally understand what you were saying this whole time. I get it. A life hiding from the Quiet King would not be a life at all.

It was just too bad that it took my being captured to fully comprehend.

Gulping down my sadness, I focused all my thoughts on the mission.

Alright. Kill the guards and then run.

I took two steps toward the opening and readied my body to attack. My veins lit up with energy, tingling and sparking stronger than ever. I gasped as this intense wave of power surged within my veins, filling me with this intoxicating euphoria.

Dear Ambi!

I stumbled back.

Alright. We will figure out this new power later. Just get away from the monster.

My fingers shook as I held onto the three guards’ hearts and tip toed across the tent. My vision brightened, telling me that my eyes were glowing.

Here we go. So close.

When I stopped three feet from the opening, I glanced over my shoulder.

Ah!

The Quiet King was sitting up in bed with his gaze seared on me. No anger decorated his face, but that didn’t calm me.

My body quaked in terrorizing fear. My mouth opened on a silent scream.

How long has he been awake?

My knees almost buckled.

I dropped my control of the guards’ hearts and readied my power to protect me from him. Trembling, I stacked blood bricks around my mind to keep him out of my thoughts.

I will not get back in that bed, and there will be no more biting or. . .anything else!

An evil smirk spread across his newly healed face.

Oh my. Did his face get even better as I left the bed?

It was now easy to see that Ian and he were twins. However, I knew I could still tell them apart. Too much wickedness lay around his eyes, and it was the sort of darkness that could not be healed.

Monster.

I stepped back, getting closer to the curtain opening.

Freeze him. Then, run. That could work. Right?

Silent, the Quiet King kept his gaze on me as he rose from bed.

W-what is he doing? Is he about to charge me?

Keeping my hands in front of me, I watched in horrified fascination as the fur blanket slipped across his rippling abdomen and fell away. . .to only expose the huge bulge pressing in front of his black leather pants.

Why does he have a blasted erection? What is wrong with him?

Trembling even more, I moved my gaze from that bulge and placed it back on his face.

The monster stood next to the bed and studied me.

His eyes. . .they aren’t foggy white anymore.

My body quaked with tremors.

Now, they’re just like Ian’s. Bright. Copper.

There was no doubt in my head that he could clearly see me.

My bottom lip quivered.

He made no move forward. Instead, he just watched me like this dangerous predator preparing to devour me.

Do I just freeze him as much as I can, then turn and run?

In my head, his magic began to shove against my mental blocks.

No. Get away. You will not be in my head.

I gritted my teeth and did my best to keep him out.

His wicked smile deepened. A second later, he easily shattered my mental blocks and slipped into my mind.

Never shield your thoughts from me. He leaned his head to the side. Do you not remember?

I almost pissed myself.

From now on, there is nothing of yours that is not mine.

Fast, he blurred to me. In one second, he stood across the room. In the other second, he was right in front of me, so close, only an inch ran between us.

My hands dropped at their sides. Panic ripped through my body, seizing my heart and making it hard to breathe.

With him so close, so damn near, I could see my limited future. His feasting on my body day and night. Over and Over. Soon there would be nothing left of me.

I have to. . .freeze him. Now.

He raised his eyebrows. Freeze me?

Run.

I would catch you.

Stunned, I just stood there as he towered over me.

I was the rabbit caught in the talons of an eagle, powerless against his might and ferocity.

Slowly, he leaned down and pressed the tip of his nose against mine. It was warm on my skin. Those copper eyes flashed in front of my gaze. His scent swarmed around me.

With his nose still touching mine, he whispered in my head, Where did you think you were going?

I violently shook. “A-anywhere.”

A loud groan left him.

I widened my eyes in shock.

Your voice. His copper gaze brightened. Your voice is a song that I want to hear over and over for the rest of my life.

I inched back, moving my nose from his. “Y-you can hear me too?”

Oh yes, and see you. He closed the small distance between us, placed the tip of his nose back on mine, and inhaled me. And you are quite the sight, blood mage.
