“Your dad will be pissed as shit if you did, you know that, don’t you? He gave up his life for you. I know it’s hard, but you’ll get through this. I promise you.”

“I know,” I said.

He started to move away but I didn’t want him to. My hands curled onto those thick arms of his and he stopped and looked at me. I couldn’t look away from his eyes.

He pressed against me and I could feel the hardness of his shaft. He was as turned on as I was, and that knowledge filled me with excitement.

His gaze lowered to my lips and as I lifted my head, a pain shot through my neck.

“Awww,” I yelped.

He frowned. “Your neck?” I thought he would kiss me, but he pulled slightly away to once again look into my eyes.

Gingerly, I touched the side of my neck. “I thought I had got the kink out, but obviously not.”

“Come, I’ll give you a massage and some painkillers with food,” he said. “You’ve had nothing to eat for hours.”

He got out of the pool and gently pulled me out, before placing a call to Marie for some food.

“Do you come here often?” I asked as we headed upstairs.

“Unfortunately, no,” he replied. “I wish I did though. It’s probably the only place in the world where I can fully relax.”

“It is?” I asked as he ushered me in.

“Yes,” he replied. “It’s my safe house and almost no one knows about it.”

I looked at him in surprise.

“Really?”

“Yeah.” We’d arrived on the top floor and he stopped in front of our rooms. “Yours or mine?”

I was already familiar with mine, but I did want to see his room. “Yours.”

“I found this place when I was looking for somewhere to recover.”

“To recover?” I asked as he closed the door.

He stopped to look at me and I realized I was being intrusive. “It’s alright if you don’t want to answer.”

He shook his head. “I want to, it’s just how I’ve always been. I’m not really open to divulging information about myself.”

I smiled. “I understand. My father was exactly like that.”

“He was,” Dante said. “He made you feel so comfortable around him, but when you think about it, you realize he is actually very closed-lipped and guarded. I think it had a lot to do with you. Not many people were even aware he had a daughter.”

“You’re right,” I replied. “He kept me completely out of it. I rarely felt the impact of his work on our lives apart from the fact he was gone a majority of the time.”

Dante sat on the bed and stared up at me.

Chapter 42

Dante

She had put on her shorts before we’d left the pool, but it did little to make me forget the sight of her in that swimsuit. All those crazy memories of her from that fateful night came crowding back into my head.

I thought of all the women I’d been with since that night. It was no wonder none of those relationships stood a chance. They were all beautiful in their own way, but none could compete with the image of her in her white swimsuit.

She was a dream in my head.

I couldn’t look away.

The more I tried, the more seductive the dream became.

Here she was, my dream, in my bedroom. I was thrilled. My body trembled with emotion.

She looked around, taking note of the surroundings and I wished I could hear what she was thinking.

“I love this room. The safe house I was in was dark in the worst of ways. Everything about it was just terrible. It actually smelled like death. Obviously, I couldn’t renovate the house, but I had to at least renovate the room I was in, otherwise, I would be haunted by my nightmares.”

Any other time I would have been amused by her cute chatter, or the way her nose wrinkled, but not now. I had dreamed of seeing her for too long. I could have lost her today, but in the middle of the chaos, we were together, alone and safe. My cock throbbed.

“Neck massage then shower for you,” I said as I hooked my hand into the band of her damp shorts and pulled her slightly closer to me.

“Sounds good to me.” Her voice was a whisper and her eyes were shining. Then I did something I never did: I let my guard down.

I knelt in front of her and leaned my forehead against her stomach. I could hear her blood and smell her sweet juices. She lifted her hand and settled it against my neck … softly … delicately. She stroked my nape and then moved to my hair and my heart swelled. Her touch was so gentle, and filled with affection. Or perhaps it was all in my head, but what I did know without a shadow of a doubt was that apart from her father she was the only person I’d ever cared about.
