A pleased chuckle rumbled out of me, and I had to adjust myself in my shorts because all the heat in my body surged to my dick. “Fuck, Mads. You’re getting me hard.”

“Am I?” She blinked innocently before reaching over to put a hand on my swelling erection. “I can help you take care of that.”

Yes, my dick chanted.

Wait a minute. I seized her hand and held her still as she cupped me through my shorts. “You’re just trying to distract me so you can get out of leg circles.”

“Who, me?” She acted offended, but her hand moved beneath mine, stroking me with just the right amount of pressure that it sent pleasure roaring up my spine. “I would never.”

I shoved her hand away, but rather than lie back down on my mat, I climbed on top of her. She was surprised and thrilled with this development. Even though we still had our clothes on, I nudged my hips between her legs and thrust slowly, letting her feel how successfully her ploy had worked, and enjoyed the moan she gave.

“We’re finishing the sets,” I instructed, “after we’re done here.”

She gave me a patronizing smile to tell me that was bullshit. “Sure, we are.”

I lowered my mouth to hers, letting her win, because it was a win for both of us.

Her kiss was just as amazing as it had been every other time. It drew me in and felt like a secret. As if she had a special kiss and I was the only person in the world she could give it to. Plus, I’d watched her kiss other people, so I knew what we had wasn’t the same as what she gave everyone else.

And that’s how sex was for us too. Nothing was as deep or as scorching hot as when it was us together. No other connection compared.

My tongue was in her mouth and my hand was wedged inside her sports bra when her phone chimed with a text message. I kissed her harder, trying to convince her to ignore it, but when it chimed a second time, she groaned and extracted her phone from her pocket.

As she read the message, her body tensed.

“What’s wrong?”

She hesitated. “It’s Jack.”

“Your ex? What does he want?”

“To get coffee together.”

A foreign, possessive feeling sliced through my chest. She’d just talked about watching me with another woman, and now here I was, upset over the idea of her having coffee with someone else. I shouldn’t be jealous.

It’s not the same, and you know it.

Because while I didn’t have feelings for Nina, Mads had been in love with Jack, and that asshole had broken her heart.

“Why does he want to get coffee?” I forced myself to sound casual. “You don’t even drink it.”

“He says he has something important to tell me.”

Like he wants her back, a voice warned in my head.

“Something he can’t say in a text?” I asked.

I was propped up on my arms, trapping her beneath me as she lay on the mat, her wavy brown hair poured around her. God, she looked so beautiful, even when surprise lit up her eyes.

She lifted a hand to touch my cheek. “What’s going on? Are you jealous?”

“What? No.” I clenched my jaw, which she had to feel. Fuck it. “I don’t know. Maybe.” I sat back on my heels, and before my brain could stop me, the words spilled out. “Sometimes I feel like I might not be good enough for you. You’re too sexy, and too smart, and too,” I searched for the right word, “perfect.”

She rose to sit and face me. “Um, I am far from perfect.”

“Perfect for me,” I said. “But I don’t have a fucking clue where I’m going, especially now that the safety net of my parents is gone.” I motioned to her phone on the mat beside her. “A guy like Jack has it all figured out, and there’s history between you two I can’t compete with.”

“Compete?” She looked lost. “Colin, what the hell are you talking about?”

I scrubbed a hand over my jaw. “I’m saying that if this is an attempt to win you back, it makes me . . . I don’t know.” But I did know. “Nervous.”

She blinked like she was stupefied, and then a laugh fell out of her mouth. “If he’s trying to win me back, it’ll never work.” Her gaze captured mine, and the gravity of it wouldn’t let go, not that I wanted it to. “I’m already in love with someone else.”

Holy shit.

My heart crashed against the side of my chest, beating wildly, but I did my best to keep my cool. “Is that so?”

She nodded. “And the guy I love? I don’t care if he doesn’t have it all figured out because I don’t either, and I thought,” she shrugged, “maybe we could figure it out together.”
