He shrugs unapologetically. “I’m not getting any younger, babe.”
I roll my eyes. “You’re thirty-five. Plenty of male actors have had kids in their fifties. Some in their sixties!”
Finn pops a brow. “I’m not an actor nor do I plan to hire nannies to raise my kids. But I might have to if we’re starting a family when I’m that old.”
Chuckling, I lean into him and wait for his mouth to meet me halfway. “You’re too easy.”
He presses his lips to mine. “I saw how you were with Magnolia and figured you’d have baby fever by the time we landed in Vermont. So just figured I’d ask so I could prepare.”
“Prepare?”
“Yeah, like wearing loose boxers and buying baby stuff.”
“Wait. Are you having baby fever?” My mouth falls open.
The corner of his lips tilts up. “I warned you that I was ready to settle down. But I’m waiting, don’t worry. I’m content with you in my bed every night...for now. Eventually, I want us to discuss other future things, too. Maybe build a bigger house so we have room for a nursery. And a place for you to paint without leaving. I know inspiration calls at all hours of the day.”
“Okay, fair enough. How about I tell you when I’m at that stage, and then you can decide when it’s time to...do all that stuff.” I wave my hand in the air.
“All that stuff, as in...marriage and babies?”
My heart flutters because it sounds sexy when he says it. “Yeah, you know, grown-up stuff.”
He chuckles, pulling me closer and kissing my forehead. “Oh, Sunshine. You sure do keep me young.”
I snicker, leaning into him. “That’s my job, Country boy.”
Though I may not be ready to walk down the aisle tomorrow, I know without a doubt that Finn’s the man I’m going to marry, and I honestly can’t wait to have his babies.
EPILOGUE
FINN
SIX MONTHS LATER
The snow-covered landscapes on the farm are as beautiful as ever. We got hit hard with a blizzard, and now everyone’s trying to clean up the mess. The sun reflects off the snow and shines bright in the sky, giving the illusion of a perfect clear day when in reality, all of our vehicles are buried, and people are scrambling to find cell service.
“Finn!” Oakley shouts from the bedroom, and I rush upstairs from the kitchen, where I was staring out the window.
“What? Are you okay?”
“Levi’s looking for you. My phone just turned on, and he’s messaged me like ten times.”
“Oh shit. Is he okay?” I grab my cell off the nightstand and see I finally have a couple of bars. Levi also left a few voice messages and half a dozen texts.
Instead of listening to each one, I just call and put him on speaker.
“Hey, man. You alright?” I ask as soon as he picks up.
“Dude. A strange woman is in my house.”
I choke on air as I try to grasp what he just told me.
“Is this a joke?” I ask because it seems wild.
“Hell no. Her name is Fallon, and she’s a journalist from Seattle.”
Oakley chimes in. “How’d she end up there?”
Levi explains the whole situation about how Fallon was scammed by an online rental company that wasn’t legitimate. Apparently, someone posted his cabin on this phishing site and claimed it was for rent. They took her money, and when she showed up, the door was open, so she made herself at home thinking it was her rental.
“I was outside chopping wood, and when I walked inside, I started taking off my clothes and making my way to the shower,” Levi explains. “So I’m walking upstairs toward the bathroom when I find her in my bed.”
Oakley’s jaw drops. “Oh my God, no...”
“Yep, showed her all of my goods. Scared the living shit out of me because I thought she was robbing me or something. Meanwhile, she thought I was breaking in to harm her. In the midst of me trying to cover my junk, she sprayed me with pepper spray, and I tripped over her suitcase. Made a complete ass out of myself as I tried to explain she was actually in my house.”
“Jesus fucking Christ,” I bellow out, imagining the entire scene in my head as I die with laughter.
Oakley’s in a fit of giggles as she covers her mouth.
“When was this?” I ask.
“Three days ago, right as the blizzard hit.”
“Shit. I’m surprised you’re still alive at this rate.”
“Honestly, me too. When she showed up, the roads were already bad. So I told her she could stay in the guest room for the night, but then by the morning, all the roads were closed. Right after I got a weather alert, I lost service.”
“So she’s just living with you?” Oakley asks.
“Yep. I called the inn and all the hotels in town this morning. They’re all booked.”
No surprise there since it’s the holiday ski season.
