* * *

She wrapped her fingers around his throat, holding tight to him as though he might try and escape their embrace. He made a hurt sound deep in his throat, leaning into her as if he might sink right into her in that way.

* * *

She arched her back, pushing into him just as urgently as he pulled her in. Hands everywhere in a confusing, grappling blur as she tried to get as close as she could to him and he did the same. She bit back a moan before remembering that the thick stone walls and heavy door would muffle any sound short of a very loud shriek.

* * *

“Oh!” she sighed, dropping her head back on the cushiony surface of the back of the sofa, arching her body into his mouth as he kissed down her neck and into her cleavage.

* * *

She bitterly regretted the many hooks and ties that prevented her from loosening her gown but Arthur acknowledged no such deterrent. He dug his hand into her neckline, scooping out her left breast with minimum effort.

* * *

She giggled, shaking her head as he latched onto her breast, suckling her like he was a babe and she, a wet nurse. Her moans were getting louder and louder as her skin heated. Pinpricks of feeling sprouted everywhere he touched, spreading and deepening, making her unable to sit still.

* * *

“Arthur,” she moaned plaintively, not even knowing what she was asking for.

* * *

“Hush. Don’t worry, I’ll take care of you,” he whispered as he began to pull up her skirts. She lay back; placing her head on the arm of the chair as his head dipped low and disappeared beneath her petticoats and she stiffened as she felt him mouthing against her most private parts.

* * *

She squeaked, lifting her head to stare down at him. “What are you doing?”

* * *

In lieu of an answer, he parted her legs further and the next thing she knew, she could feel something wet licking at her warm wetness. She gasped, covering her mouth so as not to shriek, her eyes wide as she looked towards the window, to verify that the entire household was not peering in at her.

* * *

Their bodies were obscured by the desk standing between them and the window anyway and she relaxed, before tensing again as she really registered what Arthur was doing. Her hand crept down towards his head, not sure if she wanted to stop him or not. She was fascinated by the feeling his tongue engendered on her flesh. It seemed to have become extremely sensitive. The slightest touch was maddening yet, addictive. Even in her mortification, she could not bring herself to ask him to stop.

* * *

This cannot be a Christian thing to do. She thought wildly even as her hips bucked and she felt her flesh swell up beneath his touch.

* * *

She moaned low and needily, her hips thrusting upward, trying to be closer to him. She was hard-pressed to exert some control over her wayward body. “God…” she whispered, feeling quite insane with need, “God, please.”

* * *

His tongue was joined by his finger, digging into her, seeking out all her sensitive crevices and making her arch upwards, absolutely unable to get enough of this. She whimpered and groaned, kneading her own breasts because he was too far away to do it, trying to calm their need for his touch.

* * *

He made a grunting sound, his tongue pressing harder against her flesh, the sound of suckling loud in the quiet room. She could not keep silent, the moans and groans escaping unprovoked from her lips, her body trembling in reaction to his ministrations.

* * *

“What are you doing to me?” she whispered as her body shook and shuddered, liquid gushing out of her as her body closed in on itself, and the crash of sensation almost had her passing out. She collapsed in a boneless heap, staring unblinkingly at the ceiling as Arthur sat up. She could hear him fumbling with his ties and then the desperate sound of flesh on flesh before he grunted and sighed, his body also shaking. He collapsed against the back of the sofa, panting aloud. The sound of a gardener chastising a wayward pig was loud in the ensuing silence.

* * *

“Are you alright?” Arthur asked her softly.

* * *

She lifted her head to stare at him incredulously. “Am I alright? I am…in transports, in alt, in high spirits. I could compose sonnets to you were I of a talent. Am I alright?”

* * *

He chuckled. “I suppose that was a silly question.”

* * *

She smiled. “Yes. It was.”

CHAPTER 40

They decided to have the wedding at the local chapel. It would be a small affair, with just the Raven family attending. Although Arthur’s mother was improving with rapidity - being mostly aware of her surroundings and responding to some cues - Arthur did not think she was ready for such a public gathering.
