Now I understood all the hype about sex. The way he felt thrusting in and out of me and groaning like that was enough to undo me. Add in his attention to my clit and I was climbing toward a climax harder than I’d ever felt.

He slowed his fingers, lightening the pressure until I groaned with frustration.

“You want me to get this sweet little pussy off?” he ground out. “You have to talk to me, baby.”

“Yes,” I begged, desperation in my tone. “Please don’t stop. Make me come.”

He was thrusting harder and faster now, grunting with the strain of holding back.

“You’ve got my whole cock now, baby,” he said gruffly. “Every inch of me buried in your pussy. I’ve waited a long time for this pussy and I plan to enjoy it now. I didn’t want anyone but you, you know that, right? No one else since the day we met.”

“Oh, god.” He was circling faster now, giving me exactly the right amount of pressure. “Beau, I’m going to come.”

“Goddamn, babe. Say my name again.”

“Beau…please don’t stop.”

I fell apart, shattering into a million pieces, overcome with sensation. He was right behind me, coming with a guttural groan. As I came down from the high, I felt the discomfort my body had been too turned on to notice earlier, and I inhaled sharply.

He gently pulled out of me, lying beside me and brushing the hair from my forehead.

“You okay?” he asked.

I smiled. “I’m better than okay. I was so sure it would hurt, but you made it so good.”

He kissed my forehead. “Arousal masks pain pretty well.”

“Wow. Is that why people don’t mind getting flogged during sex?”

With an amused smile, he said, “Must be, but I’ve never done that.”

“I’m really sorry to do this right now, but do you know where my phone is? I need to look something up.”

“I put it on the nightstand on your side. Everything okay?”

I grabbed my phone, entered the passcode, and quickly googled can babies feel sex.

“Okay, good,” I said, relieved. “Sex makes the uterus contract, and the baby might be able to feel that, but it’s not a big deal.”

He arched a brow, grinning. “You just checked to see if the baby knew we were having sex?”

“I mean…yeah.”

“You worried the kid’s gonna come out with a look of judgment and tell all the doctors and nurses his parents boned?”

“His or her.”

“Right.” His expression had turned serious. “I want to be there when our baby is born. And after, too. You know that, right?”

I nodded, a lump in my throat.

“Is that okay?” he asked.

I pulled the covers over myself, suddenly shy now that we were talking about something other than sex.

“I’ve thought about it a lot,” I said. “And it’s okay, but I want to be honest with you that it scares me. It’s one of the reasons I was hesitant to get involved with you.”

He pushed his brows together in a concerned look. “I don’t understand.”

“If things don’t work out with us, you could end up married with other kids later, and our child would probably prefer the life you can give them over what I have to offer.”

“Hey,” he said softly, sitting up on an elbow. “Kids don’t think like that, and I’d never, ever try to take this baby from you. You have my word.”

I nodded, grateful for his reassurance.

“And another thing,” he said, his lips quirking up in a smile, “Why are you assuming things won’t work between us? The past couple of weeks have been great, haven’t they?”

“Yeah.” I reached my hand into his hair and gently ran my fingers through it. It always felt so soft. “I’m happy. Very happy. But life has pulled the rug out from under me in the past, and I’ve learned to be prepared.”

“Being prepared is one thing, but you expect people to fail you.”

He put an arm out, a silent invite for me to snuggle against his chest. As soon as my cheek reached his warm skin, I closed my eyes, reveling in the sensation. This was quickly becoming my favorite place to be. He put his arm around my back and kissed the top of my head.

“Has anyone ever failed you?” I asked him.

“Yeah.” He traced a fingertip down the length of my spine. “I had a girlfriend when I was in the minors. I was crazy about her. I was saving up for an engagement ring. I came home early one day and found her in our bed with my best friend.”

“How horrible. I’m so sorry.”

He grunted dismissively. “I thought catching them was the worst thing that had ever happened to me, but it turned out to be the best. I dodged two bullets. Never spoke to either of them again. Fiona went over there while my ex moved her stuff out, and that was it.”
