“We spent most of the day trying to figure out where Julia is right now,” she admitted. “He’s got some great profiles on the Dark Web. The Canadians know how to build a presence, and some of them have been active for ten years.”

Taylor stood, towering over MaeBe because Mae was a barefoot sub. “That’s amazing. I’d like to take a look at those.”

MaeBe grabbed her robe, slipping it on. “Do you think she’s on her way to DC?”

“I think that’s highly likely but not all that surprising.” Taylor strode toward the door.

MaeBe waved at a couple of friends who’d just gotten in. She would miss Sanctum while she was gone, but she was eager to see The Court. Unlike Taylor, she’d only ever been to Sanctum. When they got back she hoped Kyle would take her to The Club.

That was wrong. There was no hope about it. He would. He was already talking about it and all the things they could do together over the holidays. He was acting like it was a foregone conclusion that they would be together in a couple of months and enjoying Thanksgiving at Top and the holiday weekend out at the lake house where the Taggart kids would run wild and the adults would drink and eat and watch over them. They would sit around the firepit and enjoy the cool weather. She would cuddle on Kyle’s lap and stare up at the stars.

Yeah. She was fooling herself if she thought she wasn’t right back in a relationship with Kyle.

And that was okay. It was okay that he’d made a massive mistake and might make it again. She understood why he’d done it. Time and distance from what had happened would help him enormously. Being apart would not.

She loved him. She was going to trust that would be enough, that they could be enough.

She followed Taylor out of the locker room. Drake stood in the hall, and he hadn’t changed yet. He still wore the jeans and button-down he’d had on while they were working.

Her hopes of playing tonight were rapidly diminishing.

“Hey, what’s going on?” Taylor moved in, brushing her lips against her boyfriend’s.

Drake growled a little, his hand finding her waist. “Trouble, of course. But first, you are stunning and I can’t let a second go by without telling you how gorgeous you are.”

Taylor practically glowed. “You’re not half bad yourself. Even out of leathers.”

Drake’s face fell. “Yeah, the leathers are going to have to wait. You two need to get back into street clothes. We’ve got to move.”

“What did Joseph find out?” There was only one reason they would be moving.

“Julia’s planning on making a move on you tonight.” Drake’s words confirmed her worst fear. She’d known Julia would try again. The only question had been when. “Joseph found out she hired a group of mercenaries to kidnap you tonight.”

“She’s moving on Sanctum?” That didn’t make a lot of sense. Sanctum was practically a fortress, and since they’d started using it as a safe house, Big Tag had upped the security. After the fiasco with the parking garage, he wasn’t using anyone who didn’t directly work for McKay-Taggart, and she’d noticed he was only using guards who’d been around for years. “It would have made more sense to attempt to take me when we were moving from the office to here.”

Taylor nodded. “Or she’s somehow figured out we’re flying out in the morning and she’s going to try it then. We should have a big presence at the airport.”

“I’ll get on that,” Drake promised. “But until then, Kyle and I have decided to move over to The Club for the rest of the night.”

“I’ll go and get dressed,” MaeBe agreed. “And I’ll take a quick look at the security cameras to make sure we don’t have any unwanted guests too close to the building.”

If they were moving in, she would be able to tell. She’d been trained to look for the clues, and they had security cameras that covered the areas they would need to review. Her recent training hadn’t all been physical. Erin Taggart had spent a lot of time going over tactics and military theory, including urban warfare.

If she was going to make a hypothetical run at Sanctum, she would obviously wait until it was closed, and she would come in through the back gate where they had a small basketball court. It was the easiest point of ingress, though it was still secured.

“Joseph also thinks Julia is in DC and will be waiting for us when we get there. It’s likely she planned to kidnap MaeBe, so we hand over the intel in exchange,” Drake explained and immediately pointed a finger her way. “And do not suggest we let this happen so you can be on the inside. The only thing you would be on the inside of is a cell and a whole bunch of torture.”
