Huh?

“He’s just nice.” Right? “He’s a pup?”

Groaning, Malcolm let his head fall back and looked up at the ceiling. “Help me find the patience not to kill him. I wouldn’t be able to get his body out of here without everyone noticing.”

Drama queen.

His glare was filled with a different kind of drama when he finally focused back on me. “This is the reason why you’ve been single for so long. You’ve been so nice and professionally you’ve just attracted subs. And you’ve got way too many of them pining for you. Fuck it all, Rus. You’ve got to come out a bit more just to make sure they’re actually paying attention to Doms. You’re screwing up the BDSM ecosystem here.”

“That’s not a thing.” I might not teach biology but I knew that wasn’t reasonable. “The Doms around here are doing fine getting their own dates.”

At least, I thought so, but based on how he was groaning again, I might’ve missed some recent drama.

“You’re being ridiculous.” Gossip didn’t matter.

“You’re being delusional.” Malcolm clearly had a bug up his butt about my life because he didn’t back down. “About several things, really, but I’m mostly worried about how Dante will feel when you hide from him in public.”

Oh, low blow.

“I’m not going to hide from him.” I just wasn’t planning on kissing him or mooning over him. “We’ve got the Christmas party tomorrow, so even if I was considering hiding under my desk and never coming out, that wouldn’t work.”

He gave me a look like he was questioning my sanity.

“I only thought about it for a moment when one of my students this morning asked me about my Thanksgiving and giggled.” She couldn’t have known anything but it still made my heart stop for a few seconds.

Rolling his eyes again, Malcolm took another bite of his sandwich just to make me wait and drive me nuts. “You live right across from one of the biggest sororities on campus, moron.”

Oh.

He had a point.

“They’re very polite. They do a lot of volunteering and don’t party too loudly.” That made it easy to forget about them.

Malcolm was gaping at me like I’d said they were worshiping aliens and getting out Kool-Aid. “Polite? Volunteering?”

I was starting to think I needed to get out more.

“So what you’re saying is that they probably noticed Dante coming over?” Yes, suddenly that conversation seemed much easier to handle.

His eyes were still startlingly wide. “Polite?”

Oh dear.

Maybe I shouldn’t tell him that the new pledges came over and introduced themselves every year?

Giving his head a shake, Malcolm sighed like I was utterly hopeless…and possibly going to be eaten by monsters. “Yes, I think we can safely say that one of them noticed. But honestly, we need to talk about—”

No, we didn’t.

“Dante. I know. It’s not fair to shove him back in the closet.” Grasping at everything I’d spent the last week obsessing over, I picked one at random. “His roommates.”

Yes, that would work.

That felt much safer than whatever Malcolm was going nuts over, and I knew enough about them to ramble for quite a while. “He’s good friends with all of them and they’re going to figure it out even if they’re too polite to mention it. I wish he lived with stupider people, or at least a few confused freshmen, but no such luck.”

Yes, that was much easier than whatever Malcolm was worrying over.

“They’ve probably already figured some of it out even though I know Dante is trying to keep our dating quiet so I don’t have a heart attack.” He was just sweet like that. He hadn’t even told me I was nuts. “So I’m thinking that they’ll be a good starter group for being more open. What do you think?”

Giving him something to think about and respond to was a great idea.

“I think you’ve got a very interesting plan.” Malcolm blinked a few times as his brain shifted gears and he stopped talking to me like I was a student he hadn’t been paying attention to. “Yeah, they’re all nice and a mix of Doms and subs and a switch. I think you’ll like them and even if you call him Daddy or Master, they’re not going to be shocked.”

Oh, that was…

“I’m going to do my best to think of him as Dante when we’re out in public. I’ve seen him enough on campus as just Dante that I think it’s going to be fine.” I was serious but Malcolm looked like he was going to giggle.

He was so ridiculous sometimes.

“What happens the first time they run out of chairs when you’re hanging out and you can either sit on his lap or on the floor?” Malcolm seemed to have decided to wallow in his ridiculousness.

“I’ll sit on Daddy’s lap unless the floor is very clean.” Floors could be very dirty and I didn’t want to accidentally kneel.
