“Are you almost ready?” I call to my sister. Cash should be here in fifteen minutes, and she was still sitting on the sofa watching television a little while ago. I nearly had to stand on my head to convince her to shower and get dressed.

“I’m coming.” She strolls into the kitchen and rolls her eyes. “Stop stressing. I saw the way Cash looked at you. That man is head over heels in love with you. You could wear a freaking trash bag, and he’d be happy.” I know I’ve fallen hard and fast for him, and I hope he feels the same way. “Now, we need to see if he will introduce me to Bender Valentine,” she teases. My twin has been a Bender fan since high school.

“I’ll get right on it.” I roll my eyes. Kyra runs Luv Bug out for a quick potty walk while I finish up.

He knocks on the door a few minutes later, and I take a deep breath before answering. “Hi, kitten.” He wraps his strong arms around me and leans over to kiss me, then hands me a box of chocolates. “I thought about bringing flowers, but I figured I’d never find an arrangement as beautiful as yours.”

“Aww.” Kyra gasps behind me. “How sweet.”

“Thank you,” I tell him. “Would you like something to drink? Dinner is almost ready.”

Cash stands at the counter and talks to us while I finish cooking our meal. I watch him bring a beer bottle to his lips, and my imagination takes off. Needing to cool off, I wash my hands and let cold water run over my wrists.

While we eat, Cash charms my sister. By the time I serve dessert, she’s a huge fan of his. When we finish cleaning the kitchen, she announces, “Okay, kids, it’s been a long day, and I have to get up early to open the shop so I’m heading to bed.” She picks Luv Bug up from the doggy bed in the corner. “I’ll take this little terror with me.”

After my sister leaves us alone, Cash leans over and kisses me. “I hope I didn’t run Kyra and Luv Bug off.”

“Not at all,” I reassure him. “We take turns opening the shop, and tomorrow is her day.”

“Then you have a little longer to spend with me.” He smiles down at me.

“Yep.” I lead him into the living room. “Do you want to watch a movie?”

“There’s no way I can resist spending time with my girl.”

He lets me pick the show. “Do you want to watch your mom’s new movie?” I ask him.

“If you want, but I’ve seen them all multiple times.” He smiles. I flip through the channel guide and find a movie that neither of us has ever seen. As I sit next to him on the sofa, his thigh rests against mine, warming me from the inside out. His finger runs little circles on the back of my neck, sending sparks of electricity shooting along my overstimulated nerves. He places his arm around my shoulders, pulling me closer, and I relax against his side.

No matter how hard I try to resist, my eyes begin to grow heavy, and I’m unable to stop a yawn from bursting from my lips. He leans over to whisper, “I need to get going and let you go to sleep,” and his warm breath brushes the sensitive skin beneath my ear.

I’m tempted to argue, but I’m barely keeping my eyes open.

“Would you let me take you out again tomorrow?” he asks when I walk him to the door.

“I can’t.” I hate to refuse him, but Mondays are my book club night. “I have plans.” His eyes darken and I rush to explain. “I belong to a book club at Gatsby Books.”

Cash steps back and smiles down at me. “What about Tuesday, then?” After I agree, he kisses me one last time before leaving.

As I walk down the hall, my sister calls through her closed door, “Damn. The freaking heat you two were throwing off almost caught the apartment on fire.” I step into her room and lay next to her on the huge king-sized bed. Luv Bug snuggles up between us and begins to snore.

“I think I’m falling for him,” I tell my twin as I pet my lazy pooch.

“Girl, that ship has sailed.” She laughs. “You fell hard days ago.” We talk for a few more minutes, and my eyes drift shut as I fall asleep. When her alarm screeches the next morning, I wake up with wild hair and smudged makeup. Shoot. I crashed without taking the time to get ready for bed.

“You need to wash my sheets.” Kyra hits me over the head with a pillow. “You left mascara stains on my new pillowcase.” I stick my tongue out as she walks away.
