I set my tray down and met his look. “Maybe I’d shoot you in the eye this time. Or better yet, the dick.”

He gave a slight chuckle. “That’s the last place you’d shoot me. You love my dick, baby.”

“Not when you’re being an asshole.”

“Yeah?” He grabbed me by the ankle and tugged me down, getting me flat on my back on the couch. He was on top of me a second later, ripping off my underwear and yanking my shirt up.

I slapped him across the face then shoved my hands into his massive shoulders. “Get off me.”

The hits just turned him on more, and he got me into position and shoved his big dick inside me.

My entire body went limp, just as it always did when he was inside me.

He gripped the back of my hair and rocked into me. “Tell me to stop.”

It felt so damn good every single time. A man had never made me feel this way. Ever. Every time we came together, I was paralyzed by it. I could tell he felt it too, in the way his eyes softened so subtly.

“Tell me to stop.” His fingers were tangled in my hair, and he maintained his grip like the strands were reins to a horse.

“No…” My hands hooked under his arms, and my nails anchored into the muscles of his back.

“Don’t threaten me again.” His head dropped close to mine, his eyes on my lips.

I rocked with him, breathing hard, clawing savagely.

He didn’t blink, not remotely uncomfortable by the daggers in his back. “Understand me?”

“Yes.” I hated my obedience. I hated the way I crumbled so easily. But I lost all my strength when it came to this man.

“Yes, husband.”

“Yes…husband.”

When I woke up the next morning, I was in his arms. It was a king-size bed, but we only used half of it. Only used a single pillow. We were on my side of the bed, our naked bodies wrapped around each other.

I loved waking up like this. My nights had felt so lonely during our separation, and now that he was here with me, it was as if those horrible nights had never happened. The pain on my inner thighs was gone as if I’d never been bitten.

His eyes opened a moment later, locking right on mine.

I kissed his shoulder, and when his hand moved for my neck to tuck my hair away, I kissed the inside of his wrist. “I’m sorry that I threatened to kill you last night.” My temper got the best of me, and words I didn’t mean just flew out.

“It’s fine. I like it.”

“You like it when I threaten to kill you?”

“I like it when you tell me off for being an asshole. It’s sexy.”

“You were being an asshole…”

His eyes turned playful.

“This is the part where you apologize to me.”

He grinned. “It won’t happen again.”

“Still not an apology…”

“How about I fuck you instead?” He rolled on top of me and opened my legs with his.

“Nope.” I planted my palms against his chest. “I want that apology.”

He pressed against my entrance then slid inside, filling me with his length and thickness. We both took a couple breaths as we became acquainted with each other, as if this was the first time when it must have been our hundredth. Then we started to move together, nice and slow.

My palms slid up his chest, and I cupped his face and the back of his neck.

He bowed his head and gave me a kiss as he continued to move. “I’m sorry, baby.”

“Wait…” I flipped back through the pages, going over the words I’d already highlighted.

Huntley sat beside me, his eyes on the fire in the hearth.

I flipped back and forth then checked my notes. “Wait, wait, wait…”

Huntley turned to me.

“I think I got it…” I showed him my notebook. “According to the healing elements, it’s possible to restore what once was. So if they once had wings, I should be able to restore them.” I grabbed the book. “This one talks about the process of regrowth from the soul, finding the seed of destiny and watering it with the mind…so I think that could apply to this.” I looked up at Huntley, expecting a good reaction.

His expression was as hard as ever. “None of that means anything to me. You think you can do it or not?”

“I won’t know until I try, but this is the answer. It’s just a matter of pulling it off.”

“You can pull it off, baby.”

“I’ve had no practice.”

“The dragons are practice. Keep practicing until you get it right.”

“Well…they’re dragons. I doubt they’re going to give me many opportunities to get close.”

“We’ll have to make sure they’re fed first.”

“Yeah, that doesn’t make me feel better either.”

He stared at me. “I promise I won’t let anything happen to you.”

The strength in his eyes, the depth of his voice, it did make me feel better. “We’ll leave when the sun goes down. But first, I’ve got to talk to Ryker.”
