“I’m so sorry. The nap I let her take this afternoon was a little too long. I won’t allow that to happen again.”

“Is she asleep?”

“Yes, fast asleep. It just took reading three books through twice, and on the second read-through, going slowly, soothingly. It’s what my mother used to do with me. At least, that’s what she told me.”

He got to his feet and pulled out a chair for her to sit. She thanked him and slid inside.

Alix had allowed her long blonde locks to fall free. She had such long hair, he could imagine it wrapped around his fist. He tightened his grip on her chair to stop himself from doing that right now.

“I didn’t spoil dinner, did I?” she asked.

“No.” He let go of her chair and took a step back, giving them both some space.

The scent of vanilla was heavy in the air, Alix’s own special scent.

He nodded toward his man, who exited to the kitchen.

Alix tucked some of her hair behind her ear and he watched her, unable to tear his gaze away. She looked so beautiful.

Before they had chance to talk, his man opened the kitchen door, and two women came out, bringing their food. The plates were covered with a silver dome. They put the plates down delicately in front of them, before lifting off the domes, showcasing a beautiful spiraled pasta. He thanked them and they left, taking the domes with them.

“Eat,” he said.

Alix picked up her fork and he watched her swirl it into the pasta and take a bite. He knew she loved this meal as he’d overheard her telling the chef several times how much she loved it.

“This is so good,” Alix said.

He smiled.

“Did you know this was my favorite?” she asked.

“I may have overheard you a couple of times telling the chef.”

Her cheeks went red. “Was I allowed to do that?”

“Alix, you have free reign in my house.”

“But I can’t leave.”

“No, you cannot leave.”

There was silence and they took several forkfuls of food in between.

“You told me that I now belong to you,” Alix said, being the first one to fill the silence.

“You do.”

“Was a nanny all you wanted?” she asked.

He stared at her, thinking, waiting.

“I’m not professionally trained, I have worked in a nursery for several years, and I do love kids. I’m not a nanny—”

He held a hand up to silence her. “I’m not looking for a nanny. Your role here was not supposed to be taking care of my child. Sofia likes you, you were here, I was busy, I needed you to fill a role, and that’s what you can do.” He clicked his fingers and his men left the room.

Alix looked behind her, seeing they were now alone. She turned back to look at him.

“What do you want?” Alix asked.

“Simple, Alix. I want to fuck you,” he said.

Her cheeks were a beautiful shade of red, but he noticed there was no shock in her eyes. He’d not surprised her.

“So what does that mean?” Alix asked. “I don’t know what you want from me. Do you want me to be your child’s nanny, her companion, and your whore?”

He shook his head. “I will not be paying you to be on dick, Alix. You are no whore. There will be no payment between us.”

Dmitry expected her to grab the wine, throw it in his face, to do or show a sign of being offended.

She had put her fork down and she sat back in her chair and stared at him.

“Is my divorce final?” Alix asked.

“Yes.”

She nodded. “Thank you.”

“You’re thanking me?”

“I’ve been trying to divorce George for awhile, well, annul our marriage, but I couldn’t prove that we hadn’t had sex.”

“You’ve not had sex with George?” he asked.

“No.” She pushed some hair off her face. “But I do take vows seriously.” She got to her feet and Dmitry didn’t like her doing that, so he stood as well.

She took a step toward him and he had to wonder if she was going to try to kill him. Alix reached for his hand. At first, he stared at it, not exactly sure what she was doing.

“I’m not going to bite,” she said. There was a soft smile on her face.

He took her hand but rather than allow her to lead him away, he pulled her in close, sinking his other hand into her hair. He heard the tiny, indrawn breath she made as he did this. His grip wasn’t too tight, but there was a warning with it. He held her tightly, waiting, staring at her, wondering what she would do. Her gaze was still on him.

Dmitry was tempted by her lips, hungry to try them. He let go of her hand, sweeping it across the table, sending their food to the floor. Seconds later he lifted her onto the table, spreading her legs and stepping between them. She released a gasp and this time, he swallowed it down as he kissed her. Tracing across her lips, he plunged inside.
