Ignoring the brand, I concentrated on the building pleasure. I had always had a hard time coming. It was like my body wasn’t built for it somehow. But now I felt myself climbing steadily upwards towards the peak. Maybe I just needed to be with another Were—with Nick—in order to get there.

And then he sucked my throbbing clit into his mouth and thrust his fingers deep inside me again and suddenly I was there.

“Nick! God, yes, I’m coming! Coming for you—coming!” I wailed, tugging way too hard on his hair as my hips bucked up and a wave of pleasure like a tidal wave rushed over me.

Every other time I had come was nothing to this—my entire body felt electrified with the orgasm. Every muscle tightened, my toes curled and I actually saw fireworks exploding behind my eyes, which were squeezed tightly shut. Someone was moaning and panting, “Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh!” over and over again and after a moment, I realized it was me. I couldn’t seem to stop—not as long as the pleasure kept flowing.

And Nick kept it flowing for as long as possible. He seemed to know how to prolong my orgasm and he did—lapping and sucking my clit as he pumped deep in my pussy with his fingers. I could feel myself gushing, my juices wetting my thighs. At the same time, my breasts were flowing again, the honey-like nectar coming from my nipples in streams.

I was overflowing all over and it felt so good I didn’t even care—I just never wanted this time with Nick to end.

TWENTY-FOUR

At last, however, I had to beg Nick to stop. The pleasure was too much—I felt like I had been coming forever, though it was probably just five minutes or so. Still, that’s a long time to experience the most intensely pleasurable sensations of your life when you’re not even used to having regular orgasms.

“Please!” I panted, tugging at his hair and twitching my hips to try and escape the relentless lapping. “Please, Nick! I can’t…I need…a break!”

He lifted his head at last and I saw that his eyes were half lidded with lust and his mouth and chin were shiny with my juices.

“Gods, darlin’—you taste even better than I fantasized you would,” he growled hoarsely. “Such a soft, sweet little pussy. And when you come, you make so much honey.” He licked his lips, as though he couldn’t get enough and I felt a tremble of exhausted desire in my lower belly.

“I…I didn’t know you wanted to do that to me,” I whispered, as he finally got out from between my legs and joined me on the bed.

“It’s a Were thing—we like to taste our mates,” Nick told me. “Not that you and I can ever be mates,” he added hastily. “But, well, I used to fantasize we could.”

“I always thought we would be, eventually,” I told him softly. “I mean, that’s what I thought you meant when you promised we’d stay together forever.”

Nick looked away, a frown creasing his forehead.

“We can stay together but not in that way,” he murmured. “You know I love you, Kira, but I just can’t break the Unbreakable Laws with you.”

I began to feel exasperated.

“Why not?” I demanded. “If we move away from any other Weres, who’s going to know the difference? Why should we let what other people think and believe hold us back when we don’t think and believe that way ourselves?”

“It’s not just the Pack Laws,” Nick said in a low voice. “It’s the fact that if I actually bred you, I might get you pregnant.”

“Well, yes—isn’t that the purpose of breeding?” I asked reasonably.

“Yes, it is—but we can’t risk it.”

“Why not?” I put a hand on my hip. “We’re not blood related. Any baby we made would be fine.”

“Unless it was a male,” Nick said. “If it was a male it might inherit my…condition.”

“Your what?” I demanded, frowning. “What condition are you talking about?” He had always seemed perfectly healthy to me—athletic and fit—the man probably had less than 5% body fat.

“It doesn’t have to do with me—it’s my wolf. Or should I say my beast.” He was looking down at his hands now, not meeting my eyes.

“Your…beast?” I remembered the strange thing I had seen after the attack on Gary Spaulding. The thing that had fur and a muzzle and ears like a wolf but had been walking upright on its hind legs like a man.

“Yes, that’s the best name for it. It’s not really a wolf—it’s more of a half-wolf/half-man,” he explained.

“So…like a wolfman from the movies?” I suggested.

He nodded.

“Something like that.”

“So you don’t turn into a real wolf at the full moon—so what?” I asked reasonably. “It doesn’t bother me, Nick, and I don’t think you should let it bother you, either.”

“You don’t understand.” He shook his head. “It’s not just what I think—it’s the entire Were community. The beast I turn into is called a ‘cursed wolf’ and it’s utterly reviled.”
