We’ve been walking for a few minutes, and I can already spot his Camry. This is just one of the things I love about Tristan. I can talk to him about anything and everything. He’s never boring to be with, and I’m always guaranteed a good time.

And that’s precisely why I was hesitant about making the first move myself. I was terrified of risking the easy camaraderie between us. I knew if I lost him, I’d never find anyone else like him. I could search the world ten times over, and nobody would come close.

“You wanna come home with me tonight?” he asks as he presses his key fob.

“Why? What’s in it for me?” I walk backward, so I’m facing him.

“A good fuck and me eating your pussy until your whole body shakes.”

My jaw hangs open. “My God. Who are you and what did you do to my best friend?”

“This was always me, Bun. I just hid those thoughts before, and now they’re coming out of my mouth nonstop.”

I flip my hair and pretend to check my nails. “Fine, I’m coming home with you. No need to beg.”

TRISTAN

“Fine. I’m coming home with you. No need to beg.”

“Damn right, you are,” I tell Allie and lift her on the hood of my car. She’s wearing skinny jeans, but as I slip a finger under the waistband, I can easily tell she’s not wearing underwear. Just her bare, smooth skin.

I cup her face and pepper her with kisses—from her lips to her button nose to her neck, and even the pulse between her collarbones.

She giggles and lamely pushes me back. “I stink, Tris. I haven’t showered yet.”

“Doesn’t make you any less delectable.”

People are still milling about, but few will actually care about a pair of strangers making out in the parking lot. Besides, it’s a bit dimmer here than the rest of the area. Smiling through the kiss, I slip between her thighs, and this little seductress automatically wraps her legs around my waist.

The kiss deepens, and the world disappears. It’s just me and Allie. Me and the girl of my dreams. Me and the woman I’m marrying.

“Allison?” A male voice pierces through the lust fogging my brain.

I swivel my head to tell him to go fuck off, but he doesn’t even spare me a glance. He looks at Allie with a look of pure disgust and disappointment. I don’t know who he is at first, but I won’t mind rearranging that face. He looks like the guy in med school who only managed to get in because of his daddy’s connections.

The longer I stare, the more I’m convinced he’s the same guy. Slicked back blonde hair, a mole under his eye, and a perpetual smug expression—a punchable face for sure. I try to remember the name Allie mentioned, and yes, he’s definitely that same one. I didn’t realize it before. Small world, huh?

“Bryce?” I say.

He doesn’t look my way, just shoves his hands into the pockets of his white jeans. “Shut up, dude. I’m not talking to you. Allison, what are you doing here?”

Allie, my beautiful Allie, raises a brow and shrugs. “What do you mean? I’m not allowed anywhere?”

“No. Why are you in a parking lot making out with some random dude?”

To my surprise, Allie flicks her gaze to me and then to him. “What makes you think he’s a random dude?” She wraps one arm around my neck, pulls me closer, and sucks my bottom lip between her teeth. Jesus. This girl.

Bryce chuckles darkly. “You’ve been stringing me along, then? Leading me to think you wanted me then go ahead and fuck someone else? You bitch. Melissa needs to find better friends.”

I disentangle from Allie and waste no time lunging forward. I’m taller than Bryce by maybe two inches, but he’s someone who spends almost every waking hour in the gym. I don’t faze him. He’s not bothered by the fury pouring out of my pores.

And that’s the thing. I’m someone who doesn’t like violence, but when it comes to Allie, all bets are off. I learned to fight years ago just so I could protect her from both creeps and assholes like Bryce. I was in Krav Maga and Jiu-jitsu classes. I know how to take down men larger and stronger than me.

Bryce’s guard is already down because he thinks I’m no match for him. So one minute, he’s standing, and the next, he’s lying on the concrete ground in a daze—equally baffled and in disbelief.

I don’t wait for him to get up. I crouch and fist his knitted blue sweater. “You don’t remember me, Bryce, because you breezed through med school like a typical privileged white boy who’s used to things being handed to him.” His eyes widen at that, and he studies my face, probably trying to place me. “Does your daddy know you talk to women like that? Because I distinctly remember him encouraging us to report anyone who disrespected females in his department.”
