“Yes, the scene -- the gay lifestyle, my dear. I hope coming to the RamJack won’t put you off it, though -- it’s kind of an extreme place for someone who’s just discovered himself. Still, some people just have to jump in with both feet.”

“Discovered ...?” Valenti started, but the red-haired man beside him kept talking, apparently enjoying the sound of his own voice now that he was speaking on a favorite topic.

“Discovered your sexuality, Charles, of course,” he said. “Where are you, somewhere in your early thirties? Yes, I thought so. Now, take me -- I’ve known from age three that I was gay, although it took me nearly twenty years to do anything about it. I remember it so well ...” The pale blue eyes behind the round glasses got misty as he related what was obviously a much-loved memory.

“I was in the Navy, of all places, taking a shower and admiring the tight ass of the yeoman second-class who was showering beside me. I was trying not to be obvious, but he noticed me noticing him all the same, and he came over to me, all naked and dripping soap ...” He sighed and shook his head. By this time both Valenti and O’Brian had given up all pretense of eating and were simply listening as Paul McGillis related his story.

“Well, I thought for certain that I was going to get the shit kicked out of me, as we used to say on the USS McCarthy -- yes, that was actually the name of my ship; could you die? -- But instead of killing me, Frank -- that was his name -- just looked around to make sure we were alone in the shower, and then he dropped to his knees and swallowed me whole. It was my first ever experience, and God, was it fine. I’ll never forget it ... But pardon me.” He raised an eyebrow and seemed to come back to himself a little. “I just met you, so maybe we don’t know each other well enough to be trading first-time stories.”

“Oh, no, please. It’s ... fascinating,” Valenti said weakly. Now he found he was being tormented with visions of being sucked off in the shower by his partner, or, alternatively, dropping to his knees and doing the sucking himself.

He would take O’Brian’s thick shaft in one hand and lightly tongue the head, tasting the slippery pre-come leaking from the slit before sucking as much of his partner’s heavy cock into his mouth as he could. O’Brian would moan, the water running down his golden skin, matting the thick, curling, blondish-red hair on his chest and beading on the ripe sac hanging just below his cock. Then Valenti would feel O’Brian’s hands, the strong fingers slipping into his hair and urging him on ... fucking his mouth ... Damn it -- was he going to translate everything he saw and heard in this twisted place to fantasies about his partner? His cock gave a throb as if to say, You better believe it, buddy. Valenti nearly groaned aloud.

“So you’d care to share yourself?” Paul inquired, catching him off-guard. “You see, I’m a bit of a collector of such stories. I’m an author by trade, and someday I hope to write a book. All names will be changed to protect the guilty, of course.” He grinned charmingly.

“Oh, well, I’m not sure ...” Valenti had no idea in hell what to say. “My first time with ... with a man?” he asked, trying to buy time.

“Yes, I always find first-time stories from men who have realized their sexuality fairly late in life to be that much more interesting,” Paul replied, toying with his wineglass again. “I mean, how strange that must be for you -- to wake up one day and just find yourself attracted to another man instead of a woman. To finally acknowledge those feeling about your postman, your accountant -- hell, your best friend. Although I suppose the latent tendencies must already be there to start with ...”

Latent tendencies, Valenti thought despairingly. Did he have some kind of predisposition toward the gay lifestyle? Was that why he suddenly found himself drawn to his partner in a more than friendly way? Be honest, Nicholas, in a sexual way. And yet, he felt no attraction to any other man but O’Brian; all these other twinkies in tight shorts left him cold. Could you be gay if you only wanted one other member of the same sex?

He thought about an AA meeting he’d attended with a friend once for moral support. A man had raised his hand and pointed out that he only drank every Monday, to help him get through the start of the week. Did that make him an alcoholic, he wanted to know. The group leader’s answer had been an unequivocal yes.
