She stands behind the desk with a hand on her hip. “Not as good as yours, it seems.”

I stop, my stomach churning. Did word get out already? How? The office just opened.

“Did you and Jason get married, or is this a joke?” She watches me curiously. “I’ve been thinking about it for the last twenty minutes and the more I think about it, the more I believe it’s probably true. You two have always had a thing for each other. But it does feel very much like a fantasy, so if it’s not true, pretend I didn’t say a thing.”

I grip my bag, feeling the leather slip around my suddenly-damp palm. “Well, it’s true.”

“Oh, my gosh. What?” Her eyes nearly fall out of her head. “You married Jason?” She rushes around the corner of the desk and hugs me. “Congratulations.”

“Thank you.” I take a step back, frazzled. I knew word would get out. I didn’t think it would get out before I got here. “How did you know?”

“Flowers were delivered before I got here. I don’t know who set them on my desk, but I read the card because I didn’t know what to do with them, and it …” Her cheeks heat. “Let’s just say it made things clear.”

Oh, shit. What did you do, Jason? I flush.

“I won’t say a word until you do,” she says. “And I’ll pretend I didn’t read that card, so please don’t tell your husband I read it. Let’s not make things weird.”

“Thank you, Brandi.”

I’m not sure what to say, so I hurry down the hall to my office. I flip on the light and, sure enough, Thomas’s arrangement is long gone. In its place is a circular black box stuffed with hot pink roses.

I drop my bag and find the card.

Chloe,

These remind me of the color of your ass after the other night. Let’s do that again, my beautiful wife.

Jason

My head falls forward as I imagine the look on Brandi’s face when she read the card.

“We’re going to have to work on boundaries,” I mutter, although a smile is firmly on my lips.

I quickly scan my emails, picking out the important ones and dealing with them. Then I note the number of voice messages awaiting me and decide they can wait. Jason’s schedule is manageable today, and there are no surprises. Fortunately. My latte is waiting for me, as it is every morning, but this morning? It’s a little more special.

It’s from my husband.

I knock on his door, then poke my head around the corner. “Hey. Just letting you know I’m here.”

He stops what he’s doing and looks at me. A slow grin stretches across his face. He really is a sexy beast. How did I keep my hands off him for so long? “Good morning, beautiful.”

“You’ll give me a complex if you keep calling me that.”

“Prepare for a complex then.”

“The roses you sent me are gorgeous,” I say, moving to his desk. “I don’t know how you had them delivered before we opened, but I’ll just chalk it up to yet another thing you do that I can’t comprehend.”

He taps a pen against his lips, hiding his satisfaction.

“But I will have you know that Brandi read the card,” I say.

I’m not sure if he’s going to laugh or cringe. That makes me laugh.

“I told her I wouldn’t tell you because she doesn’t want it to get weird,” I say, shaking my head at him. “But maybe next time, don’t write something so private.”

He shrugs. “It’s my company, and you’re my wife. I don’t see the problem.”

“Jason …”

“Fine.” He tosses the pen on his desk. “I’ll make sure they put a disclaimer on the envelope next time. Then if she looks, it’s on her.”

I roll my eyes. “Okay, let’s move on. Florence Systems will be coming by at two o’clock to meet with you and Tate. Don’t let Tate take over because you have a three thirty call with Ford Landry, and a four thirty call with Brunston Aeronautics. Also, there seems to have been a slight issue last night at our gate in Philly. I flagged the email for you if you haven’t seen it yet.”

He says nothing, only grins.

“What?” I ask.

“You’re my wife.”

I laugh. “Yes, I am.”

“Come here.”

“I know that look in your eye,” I say, pointing at him. “We can’t be messing around in the office.”

“It’s my office.”

“And we have things to do.”

He narrows his eyes. “Did you come in through the front door this morning?”

I nod. “Of course. Why?”

“What did it say just above the door when you walked in?”

“Brewer Air …” My shoulders fall as I realize what he’s getting at.

He smirks. “Brewer Air, as in Jason Brewer. Now get your sexy little ass over here so I can hold my wife before this day turns to shit.”

This is highly inappropriate and probably against the handbook in a hundred ways. But I’m not saying no to him—and not just because I’m completely turned on when he gets all bossy with me. I don’t say no because I want him to hold me, too.
