“Once you get to know them, it will get easier,” I reassure her.

“We’ll see.” She doesn’t appear to be convinced.

Chapter Six

Oakley

For the last two weeks, I’ve spent almost every second of my free time with Rafe. The hot biker even managed to win over Aunt Tilly and Moose when he bought my spoiled pooch a doggie sofa for his house. Both nearly swoon at the sight of him now. A few days ago, my aunt ordered Rafe to call her “Aunt Tilly.” The turn my life has taken in the last few weeks is shocking and a little scary, but I’m determined to hold on for the wild ride with my hot biker. Even if there’s a chance I’ll get my heart broken.

We’re on our way to Rafe’s Grammy’s house for dinner. Rafe’s sister, Quin, and her husband, Seth, will be there, too, and I’m a nervous wreck to meet Rafe’s entire family.

“I hope they like me.” I rub my hands over my skirt, trying to relieve some of the fear coursing through me.

“Baby, you don’t have anything to worry about,” Rafe reassures me. “They are going to love you.”

God, I hope so.

“Oh my goodness.” A short, beautiful blonde woman who looks nothing at all like Rafe walks up and pulls me into a hug. “You’re so pretty.” She leans back and gushes. “I’m Quin.” She points at the massive man standing next to her. “And this is my husband, Seth.”

“Don’t touch her,” Rafe growls under his breath as Seth holds out his hand to me.

“Put the caveman away.” A tiny, older woman steps between the two men. “And let your brother-in-law use his manners.” Rafe huffs as his grandmother turns to me. “Call me Grammy.” She pulls me into her fragrant hug, and my heart settles into place.

Throughout the night, the two men give each other a hard time, but I can see that Rafe really likes his new brother-in-law.

“When are you due?” I ask Quin, who’s obviously pregnant.

“In four months, seven days, and three hours,” she teases, and we both laugh. When she tells me she works at the library, I know she and I will be good friends.

“I’ve been dying to read the new Slade Gray book.” I’m not above using my connections to get my hands on the hot book. “Can you let me know when it’s available?” I’m too cheap to spend twenty dollars on a book or I’d just buy it.

“I can do better than that.” Quin smiles at me. “I have it at home. I’ll let you borrow it.”

I’m unable to resist squealing like a teenager and hugging my new friend. “Thank you so much.”

Before Rafe drives me home, I promise to meet Quin later in the week for lunch, and she promises to bring the book.

Early Friday morning, I roll out of bed before my alarm goes off and head for the shower. I’ve been wide awake staring at the ceiling for the last two hours, and I finally admit there’s no way I’m going back to sleep. Rafe took my request for time and ran with it. Since the picnic, he hasn’t done more than give me a kiss each night when we part. Frustration has become my new best friend. I keep sending out signals that I’m ready for him to move things along, but the hot architect is determined to ignore them.

Tonight, we’re staying at his apartment in Houston, so we can attend a charity banquet tomorrow night. The MC is one of the charity’s big sponsors, and most of Rafe’s MC brothers will be there with their wives. Butterflies erupt in my stomach at the thought of finally meeting these people who are so important to Rafe.

After the party, I plan on using our time alone to seduce Rafe. Scarlett and I went shopping two days ago for my fancy dress, and I splurged on a figure-hugging black number. My friend assured me the dress would turn Rafe to putty. I hope she’s right or I’m about to make a huge fool of myself.

“Hey, doll.” Aunt Tilly smiles when I walk into the kitchen a while later. “Are you coming home after school or going straight to Rafe’s?”

“I’ll come and pick up my bag,” I tell my aunt before giving Moose goodbye kisses. I have no doubt my little chihuahua will hold a grudge. I’m sure he won’t be giving me kisses for a few days once I return.

“Have a good day,” Aunt Tilly calls as I walk out the door.

“Sure,” I mumble under my breath. I have no doubt the day will drag on while I anticipate the important weekend ahead.

As anticipated, the day crawls by at a snail’s pace. I’m a nervous wreck by the time the last bell rings. I’m rushing out to my car when the principal, Mr. Richardson, stops me.
