“You mean, in the context of you being a mom?”

She nods.

“Are you kidding me?” I blurt. “What’s the only thing hotter than a MILF? An enraged MILF.” When she laughs, I walk to her and place my palms on her hips. “Watching you read Drew the Riot Act made me want to drag you upstairs to your bedroom and fuck you till you’re screaming my name.”

Selena blushes and whispers, “Grayson.”

“Yeah, just like that. Only much louder.”

She chuckles. “If I look enraged, it’s because I am. I hate lying in any form, and Drew knows it.”

“I’m sure he fully respects that, especially after everything you went through with his father. Drew knows about that, right?”

She nods. “The gist.”

“But the thing is,” I say, “do you really want your teenage son to tell you about every last thought in his head? At a certain point, once the hormones start kicking in, I think some things are better left unsaid between a mom and her son. I certainly didn’t tell my mother every damned thing I thought or did during my teenage years, but that didn’t mean I loved or respected her any less.”

Selena grimaces. “You keep using the word teenager.”

“Right. Because that’s what Drew is. Hence, the word four-teen.”

“He only turned fourteen last month.”

“And before then, he was thir-teen.” I laugh at her scowl. “There’s no way around it, Mama. Your kid’s a teenager. Sorry to inform you.”

“Ugh.” She leans into me and puts her forehead on my shoulder. “I’m so not ready for this.”

I stroke her back. “If it makes you feel any better, the kids were sitting so far apart when we first walked in on them, I’m positive you’ve got at least a couple years before Drew’s hosting secret orgies at your house.”

Selena gasps. “Grayson McKnight!” She swats my shoulder. “Don’t say that word in relation to my sweet little baby boy!”

I laugh. “I was trying to comfort you.”

“By saying my son will soon be having secret orgies in my house?”

“Chin up. He might decide to co-host them at Eddie’s house, instead.”

“Stop teasing me. You’re giving me a heart attack.” She leans her luscious ass against the island, exhales, and tilts her head back. “All joking aside, I’m terrified Drew will turn out like his father—addicted to sex and an expert at lying about it. My main goal in life is to make sure I’m not raising a clone of Andre.”

“Sweetheart, Drew won’t turn out anything like his asshole father,” I assure her. I touch a lock of her dark hair. “And do you know how I know? Because he’s got you as his mother. Thanks to you and your incredible parenting, Drew will learn to respect every single woman he . . . invites-to-secret-orgies-whenever-his-mother-goes-out-for-the-night.”

“Grayson!”

I burst out laughing, and, luckily, Selena joins me.

“You’re incorrigible,” she says. “Please, no more talk about my son’s future orgies. My poor heart truly can’t take it.”

“That was the last time. I swear on my love for you.”

“Thank you.” She thinks for a moment before unleashing an amused smirk. “Did you see the boys’ faces when they first saw us? They looked like all the oxygen had suddenly been sucked out of their bodies.”

I laugh. “We were definitely a buzzkill, dude.”

Selena snickers. “Do you think the kids were hoping to do something more salacious tonight than watch a movie, but we foiled their big plans?”

I pretend to consider the question, even though the answer is obvious. “Well, I have no idea what the girls were thinking. But based on my experience as a fourteen-year-old boy, I can confidently say that yes, the boys were fervently hoping and praying something more salacious than watching a movie would transpire tonight.”

Selena laughs and slides her arms around my torso. “I’m so glad you’re here to talk me off the proverbial ledge.”

“I’m at your service, ma’am. In fact, I’ll give you a promo code, so you can use my talking-off-the-ledge services any time, day or night, free of charge.”

“What a deal.”

I kiss her. “Thank you for letting me see your home. Are you upset I unexpectedly got to meet Drew, so much earlier than you’d planned?”

“No. Left to my own devices, I would have waited far too long. Now that you’re here, it feels like perfect timing.”

My heart leaps. “I’m so glad you feel that way.”

Selena’s chest heaves. “In fact, now that you’ve met Drew and he obviously likes you, I think you should join us for dinner or a movie night sometimes. Maybe once a week? And you can stay the night whenever Drew is sleeping at Andre’s or a friend’s house.”

“Awesome.”

“Beyond that, I think we should keep seeing each other away from my house, as we’ve been doing. I want to integrate you into Drew’s home life slowly, okay? I don’t want to give him, or myself, whiplash.”
