Suddenly, she freezes, her eyes bulging. “What time is it?”

“Almost three last I checked. Why?”

“Oh my god!” She squirms, so I stand, lowering her to her feet, and then she spins, grabs her phone and winces. “Fuck, fuck, shit. We have to go. Now.”

Chuckling, I start grabbing my things, and she wraps her fingers around my wrist, my jacket hanging over her arm as she yanks me along. “I’m comin’. Chill. You act like you’ve never ditched before.”

“I haven’t.” She glares at me from over the hood as I round the car. “Greysons don’t ditch,” she explains. “We’re shiny and perfect. Always. But that’s not the problem. You know that shark I mentioned?” She slides into the car, forcing me to follow.

“Uh-huh?” I turn the engine over, meeting her gaze.

“I call him Dad, and he has a thing for machine guns.”

“I like machine guns.”

“He doesn’t trust outsiders.”

“I don’t trust anyone.”

“Bastian,” she snaps, and her eyes sharpen. She hesitates, but only for a split second, and then says, “He will murder you and no one will ever find out.”

My gaze narrows on her, falling to her preppy uniform and then the spot she keeps her weapon.

Fucking knew it.

I pull onto the road and grip her thigh before hitting the gas. “Schoolgirl, my ass.”

Chapter 11

Rocklin

Ten missed calls and too many texts to count, I dial back the last one who called. Bronx answers in half a ring.

“Bitch, what the fuck?” Bronx hisses.

I glare at Bastian when he grins. “I’m almost there.”

“I know. I have your location, remember?!” she whisper-shouts. “Hurry the fuck up!”

“What’s Sai—”

“What’s your mammoth of a guard doing? Sweating. Bullets. Threatening to shoot lots and lots of fucking bullets. Girl, he’s in full-blown panic mode!”

“What did you tell him?”

“You were held up by your professor in your last class.”

“And?”

“And then your professor walked by and said, ‘Ladies, I missed Miss Revenaw today.’”

Bass laughs and I smack him.

“Okay, I—”

“Hold up,” Bronx snaps, and then there’s some shuffling. “Was that a chuckle?”

“A male chuckle?” Delta adds.

“A sexy, raspy, deep male chuckle?!” Bronx nearly squeals.

“Shut up!”

“Oh, she doesn’t like us talking about how hot her little secret sounds—”

“I will hang up right now.” She’s not wrong, there’s unexpected heat in my stomach.

“So, I’ll call right back. Who is he? That new hot professor? Did the freaking Henshaw heir finally get his way? Oh, is it the—”

“I’m pulling up,” I cut her off, eyes snapping to the steering wheel when Bastian’s grip causes it to squeak, his knuckles growing white. “Where’s Sai?”

“Throwing open doors near Calder Hall.”

“Okay. I’m getting out now.”

“Hurry, and bye, Coco Rocco’s new dick, hope you like sharing! Don’t get attached, or she’ll spit you out.”

The line clicks.

“Sharing?” Bass glares.

I throw my seat belt off and dash out, but he catches me by the arm, yanking me back.

“Sharing?”

Growling, I lean over and smash my mouth to his and squeeze his junk until he growls, pressing it up into my hand. I massage him, sucking his lips until he pants and then I’m gone.

“That’s for holding back on my reward!”

“I’m gonna punish you, girl!”

“Can’t wait!”

I hear his door open and then he shouts. “I do not share, Rocklin Revenaw!”

I smile brightly, slamming the steel gate and peeking at him through the gaps. “See you later, Bastian Bishop!”

He stares at me over the hood, his teeth sunk deep into his bottom lip, eyes hard and piercing.

I blow him a kiss and then I run. I head down the garden path, straight into the doors of Calder Hall, stopping short as Sai’s red face flashes at the opposite end as he, too, reaches the dividing door. His shoulders visibly relax as he spots me through the glass, but his bunch as he flings the thing open, stepping inside.

“Not funny.” His voice is stern, but he makes sure to keep it controlled.

I level my breathing, ignoring the cramp-like feeling in my chest. “What?”

“Don’t. You can be mad, we can have a conversation, but you do not go off without notifying me. Not now.” It’s a demand from my guard, slash Dad’s old bestie, slash second father figure. Still, he pretends to ask, “Okay?”

“Tell me why.”

His eyes narrow and he looks around, and when he faces me again, he says one word. Or one name, rather. “Boston.”

Awareness prickles and I stare back at him. What he means is Enzo.

So there is danger creeping in from somewhere, but if that’s the case, what’s with his disappearing act?

Understanding this isn’t the place to talk about it, I don’t push. I’m not even sure which questions I need to ask yet anyway, so I stay silent.

“Can I take you home now?” He frowns, stepping aside with his hand swept out.

I lead us to the car where the others wait. I meet Dom’s gaze as I step out of the building, and he nods his chin.
