Did she even need a changing unit? He hadn’t realized that she would regress to a baby. But he guessed a toddler could use one.

It was a gorgeous mahogany, quite tall and had a soft looking mat on the top for her to lie on.

There were drawers and he checked through them to see some wipes, training panties, and those things that went over panties. Bloomers? Was that it?

He pulled one pair of bloomers out. It was a pale green with yellow flowers over it. And there were several ruffles at the back.

Turning, he glanced around at the rest of the room. The large bed with the mahogany headboard that matched the changing unit. The bed had a pale green bed cover along with a white throw.

There was a new set of wooden drawers and a desk with a wooden chair that all matched.

Wow.

They’d achieved so much in a short space of time.

He wondered if they had filled her closet up. He’d seen some really cute clothes online when he’d gone looking the other day.

Just out of curiosity, of course.

Right. Sure.

Not because you want to buy her everything and see how adorable she looks in it all.

Not because you want to get her all the toys you’ve seen and watch her playing happily.

Nope.

Nothing to do with that.

“Roman?”

He jumped slightly, turning to see her standing in the doorway. She had her hair up in a messy bun and there were smudges of dirt on her face and hands.

He frowned. “What have you been doing?”

“Oh, uh, cleaning out the basement.”

The basement? What . . . why . . . nope.

“You have not been,” he said sternly.

She blinked, most likely shocked at his tone. But he wasn’t having that.

“Um, yes, I have been. What are you doing? How come you’re holding those?”

She pointed at the bloomers he still had in his hand. He could feel himself growing red.

Was a Daddy Dom allowed to blush?

Urgh. He couldn’t believe he’d just had that thought. Why couldn’t he blush or do whatever he wanted? As long as he did what was important.

Took care of her, nurtured and supported her, cherished and guarded her. Protected her.

Are you doing all of that, though?

Somehow, he didn’t think he was doing the best job. By holding back out of fear was he making her feel less?

God, he hated the idea of that.

Although he thought she was more concerned with looking after him than worried about herself.

Was he denying them both what they needed?

Screw it.

He was tired of letting his family hold him back and push him down.

“I thought these were cute.” He held up the bloomers.

“They are. I haven’t worn them yet, though.”

“Why not?”

“I don’t . . . I don’t really know. I guess because Salem and Alexei haven’t chosen to dress me in it. Is that silly?”

“Not at all,” he countered. “And I’m glad they haven’t.” He walked toward her.

Her eyes grew wide and she watched him with a hint of concern. Yes, he knew he was acting out of character.

Or perhaps for the first time he was being who he really was. Who he actually wanted to be.

“Why?” she asked.

“Because it means that I get to be the first to dress you in these.”

“You?” Her mouth dropped open comically.

“Me. But first we have to get you clean.” He brushed at a cobweb in her hair. “What were you thinking, going into the basement on your own?”

He couldn’t believe she’d done that. Anything could have happened to her down there and he’d have had no idea.

“Am I not allowed in the basement?” she asked him.

“No.”

“Oh, I’m so sorry. I should have asked. Is there private stuff in there that you didn’t want me to see?”

What was she talking about? Why would he have anything that he didn’t want her to see?

“No, you misunderstand, Kitten.” He cupped her chin and tilted her head back. “I’m not concerned about what you might find. Anything I have is yours. What I am concerned about is you going into the basement alone without telling anyone. What if you’d hurt yourself? I would have had no idea where you were.”

“But I had my phone!” She drew her phone out of her pocket. “See?”

“Good girl for remembering your phone.”

She smiled widely, obviously pleased with herself. He hated to burst her bubble, but she needed to know that what she’d done wasn’t safe.

Although he did like her reaction to his words.

“I am a GG,” she said proudly.

“And the reception is patchy at best down there,” he explained in a low voice. “So you likely wouldn’t have been able to call anyone. You could have had something fall on you. You could have tripped and hit your head and fallen unconscious.”

“You’re starting to sound like Alexei, thinking the worst is going to happen to me. I am capable of looking after myself.”
