Her eyes go past me to the laughing stock behind where we’re standing, and then zone back in on me. “If they did this to you, you tell me and I’ll go right on over there and kick their fucking asses.”

I blink.

She shakes her head. “Shit, sorry, I’m Poppy. I’m Beckett’s ... pregnant sort of better half. You must be Gabby, he was telling me about you.”

Wait.

Oh.

Yes.

This is good.

I know about Poppy, Becky hasn’t stopped going on about her and what a bitch she is, blah blah blah, but pregnant. She failed to mentioned that one. Does she know? Oh, god, I hope she knows.

No, wait, I hope she doesn’t know so I can see her stuck up face when I tell her.

“It’s nice to meet someone who is willing to kick their asses as much as I am,” I mumble, extending a hand. “Care to help me come up with a plan?”

Poppy grins. “Oh, I have some great ideas. Are they being dicks, if they’re being dicks I’ll have something to say. Trust me, I’ve been in your shoes and they can be douchey.”

I laugh. “They’re dicks, but I can handle it. I’m just glad to see a female. I’m getting testosteroned out.”

Poppy laughs. “Well, I’m here anytime. I’m actually coming to see Beckett, but if you’re due for a lunch break soon you should come over to my friend Eve’s café, it’s just over the parking lot.”

“Oh, I’ve been there once before. Sure, sounds good. They owe me lunch now.”

“Good. Get cleaned up, and I’ll meet you out front.”

“Sorry about your shirt,” I say, pointing to the large stain on her shirt.

She waves it off. “Don’t even, it doesn’t bother me.”

She strolls off and I get myself changed, walking out of the bathroom and running straight into Remy. He catches me, big hands on my shoulders, and I won’t lie, I take a good long smell of him. There is something about a man who has been working with cars—the smell drives me wild.

It’s my biggest weakness.

“Did you just fuckin’ sniff me?”

I snort and take a step back. “Yes. I happen to like the smell of mechanics. So sue me.”

“Don’t see me throwin’ my nose between your legs because I like the smell of pussy.”

I grin. “If that’s what floats your boat, I’m here for the taking.”

He stares at me, shocked.

Oh, that’s right. Working with men means I know how to deal with them, too. They always think they can shock me with their sexual advances, but I’m more than capable of putting them back in their places by shocking them right back. Also, if Remy wanted to take me over one of those old cars out there, I wouldn’t say no. He’s gorgeous.

“Didn’t pick you as that type.”

“What type is that?” I ask, crossing my arms.

“Easy.”

I grin. “That depends how you define easy.”

“You just offered up your pussy for me.”

“And? I’m sure you roll around offering your dick up to random women all the time. Are you easy?”

He narrows his eyes, then leans in close. “Oh, fuck yeah.”

I laugh. “Well, then you’re in no place to judge. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a lunch date with Poppy.”

“She’s trouble, watch her.”

I wink at him. “Then we’ll get along just fine.”

I turn and walk away but as I reach the door, I look back over my shoulder. “Oh, and Remy?”

He looks to me.

“You made a mistake doing that to me today. There’s one thing you should know about me, I know how to play. Hard.”

With that, I leave.

They’re about to learn who Gabriella really is.

“SO YOU’RE WORKING WITH all those guys,” Eve asks, her eyes wide. “God, they’re hard enough to handle separately. Are you crazy, girl?”

I laugh. “Probably, but it’s a good job and I’m out to prove them a girl can be just as good as them.”

“Good for you!” Ramona, Eve and Poppy’s friend, laughs. “I love nothing more than having to see them eat their words.”

“Have you lived around town for long, Gabby?” Poppy asks. “I feel like I’ve seen you, but I’m not sure where.”

I’m sure she has, too.

“Yeah, I’ve been here most of my life. I am known to have caused a few problems during that time,” I grin.

“Oh, what’s your last name?” Eve asks. “I’ve been here forever, too.”

Shit.

One mention of my last name, and Eve will know exactly which family I belong to and why I’m here.

“You’ll never believe it, but Smith,” I laugh. “The most original name in the history of names. When I have to tell people, most of the time they think I’m lying.”

Eve laughs. “I can imagine! What street did you grow up on?”

Jesus, she wants to know everything.

“Eve, dear, who is your new friend?”

An old woman sitting on the table beside us, literally just saved my ass. I had no idea how I was going to answer that one. I couldn’t exactly make up a street name, she’d probably know it was fake.
