They tried to look nonchalant but there was a light dawning in their eyes. The Devil’s Jesters might be unlawful thugs, but they knew when pursuing something would result in a serious loss of freedom. They exchanged glances for the first time.

Elizabeth didn’t relax her guard. She’d never be able to do that. Mentally shrugging, she’d given up the right to walk through life without looking over her shoulder every few steps. Her job provided challenges and earned her enemies. She could live with that, knowing she helped people who otherwise wouldn’t have any hope.

Four sleek, well-ridden motorcycles roared into the parking lot. Talon, Bear, Faust, and Storm kicked down their stands and dismounted. Talon claimed the spot next to Elizabeth with the others backing up the duo.

“This is getting old, Slash,” Talon told him with a tone of absolute boredom.

“We’re so sorry to inconvenience you,” Slash told him with a sneer.

“I’m going to say this slowly so you’ll understand. A move against any of our women will bring unlimited wrath onto your MC. This ends today. Now.”

“We’re shaking in our boots,” Slash mocked. He did look over his shoulder to nod at the bikers backing him up. One by one, they mounted their bikes and took off. Their bravado never wavered, but it was obvious they’d backed down.

When the parking lot was empty, Talon looked over his shoulders at the Guardians who had jumped at the opportunity to ride with him. He shrugged his shoulders and turned to Elizabeth.

“You’d already scared the crap out of them, hadn’t you?”

“I just pointed out a few things and let them connect the dots,” she shared.

“I’m glad your Little’s on our side,” Faust stated with an almost smile tilting up the corners of his mouth.

“Awww. I like you, too, Faust.” Elizabeth smiled fondly back at him.

Shaking his head, the perpetual mean guy walked back to his bike and got back on.

“Let’s go, Buttercup. We’ll escort you home,” Talon told her.

“Like my own motorcade. Neat!” She ran for her car and jumped inside.

“We’re going to have to repeat this for each Little now,” Bear pointed out.

“I know. There’s only six. That’s not too much effort. Maybe we can double up a few,” Talon suggested as they walked back to join Faust.

“There’s only six, now,” Storm pointed out.

“What? You can sense more coming in the wind?” Bear joked.

“Yes. They’re out there. We just have to find them.”

After dinner that night, Elizabeth jotted down the incident and the date in the Little’s secret journal in the library amongst lots of laughter after telling them all what really happened. “I think they’ll back off but who knows with those guys. Watch your backs,” she warned as she met each Little’s gaze.

It was unbelievable to know just how much she enjoyed and cared for each of these women. They were all so different but so similar.

“Thanks for welcoming me,” Elizabeth said simply.

“You’re one of us,” Ivy told her without hesitation. “I’m trying to figure out who will be the next one to meet their Little.”

“Think Rock would ever be interested in someone again?” Carlee asked, turning to Remi.

“I don’t know. Maybe?”

“I know. It has to be Faust,” Eden suggested.

“His match has to be out there. I think there’s a whole other side of Faust we haven’t seen,” Harper suggested.

“Are you fucking kidding me?” roared through the door of the conference room. Faust’s voice seemed to carry.

“She’s going to have to be someone as tough as he is,” Remi guessed.

“Or his complete opposite,” Elizabeth guessed. “Who would have matched each of us with our Daddies?”

They all sat quietly thinking about that perplexing question for a few seconds.

Remi shrugged. “It doesn’t matter what they’re like. I’m looking forward to meeting them.”

“Me, too,” Carlee agreed, and the others nodded their heads.

“Think we can talk them into story time tonight?” Eden asked.

“Bear said he has a book for Talon to read,” Ivy shared.

“Oh, no. This might be dangerous,” Elizabeth said with a laugh. “Look. The meeting’s over. Ink was made a member. That makes me happy.”

A few minutes later, Bear steered Talon over to the Littles. “Talon volunteered to read tonight. I have a new book for him. Go ahead and get settled, Talon. I’ll grab it.”

“What does he have planned for me?” Talon asked.

“We don’t know,” Remi admitted. “Thanks for reading to us.”

“Of course.”

“Here you go, Talon.” Bear handed him a book wrapped in a brown bag.

Opening it slowly, Talon peeked in and began laughing. “I’m going to get you for this, Bear. Just expect it.”

Talon turned the book around to show everyone the cover. Mr. Fancy Pants Wins the Prize. The illustration featured a man in psychedelic bell bottom pants poised with one hand up in the air.

“Oh, this is going to be good,” Elizabeth said, settling back against a cushion. She loved her Daddy’s dance moves.
