I can’t help but grin. “But that’s exactly what I want to do. Wanna show you just how grateful I am for you. Just how amazing you are. My precious, perfect Blondie.”

“Is the blood loss making you delirious?” she teases, rolling her eyes as she crosses to me with supplies in hand.

I snort. “Nothing affects me the way you do.”

Kacie’s eyes glitter as she brandishes a pair of fabric scissors, holding my eyes as she slowly cuts my shirt off my body. My cock is so hard I think it might break through my fucking zipper as she peels the fabric off me with soft, gentle hands and discards it.

I hold as still as physically possible as she wipes away the dried blood from my arm and hums in thought.

“Just a graze, but it needs bandage and some cleaning up,” she murmurs as she works. After she’s bandaged my arm, she grabs my hands and examines my knuckles. They’re a bit worse for wear after meeting Quinn’s face so many times. Shaking her head at me, she cleans them up too while I stare at her in awe.

The second she’s done, I drag her onto my lap, loving her little squeak of surprise.

“You’re so fucking incredible,” I tell her, my mouth so close to hers. “Talented and sweet and gorgeous. And mine.”

“Kellan,” she breathes, shivering in my arms.

I push to my feet, scooping her up and ignoring the way the movement tugs at the newly bandaged wound. With long strides, I move us out of the living space and down the corridor to my room. I need a door with a lock and to take her somewhere with soft furnishings and no blood stains.

I kick the door closed behind me and lock it, setting Kacie down.

I tangle my hand in her hair, tipping her head back and staring into her eyes, letting her see my emotions shining through. I can’t deny what I’m feeling, and fuck, she deserves to know.

“I’m so fucking in love with you, Blondie.”

KACIE

“I’m so fucking in love with you, Blondie.”

My heart stutters in my chest, shock and raw emotion washing over me. Kellan’s staring at me with such adoration, his gaze softer and more vulnerable than I’ve ever seen.

“I love you too,” I answer, my voice a little shaky. I’ve known what I feel for him for days, but it seemed too insane to admit. Now, standing in front of him, it feels silly that I ever tried to ignore it. I love Kellan. I love his darkness, his heart, the way he cares for those he loves. “But you’ve got to stop giving me goddamn heart attacks by getting hurt!”

I step away from him for a second, gesturing for him to sit on the bed. I know he’s fine—I checked him over thoroughly—but I can’t stop myself from worrying. I’ve bandaged him up, and the way my heart’s beating right now is entirely from the fact he’s shirtless and showing off the abs that make my mouth water.

He sits down dutifully, never letting his eyes drop from mine. “I’m okay, Blondie,” he promises gently. “I promise. Nothing like today will ever happen again. I won’t let anyone hurt you. Ever.”

I can’t help but huff a laugh at that. Of course, it’s me he’s worried about. I’m entirely unharmed, and he’s been grazed by a damn bullet only a week after being stabbed. But, sure, let’s worry about the girl who’s healthier than anyone else in the house. His overprotectiveness is charming, though.

“I know you won’t,” I tell him honestly. “I’m not worried about me. I love you, Kellan. I meant that.”

“You worry about me, little doctor?” Kellan asks, a teasing tone to his voice. “You care about all your patients this much?”

I scoff, grabbing a pillow off the bed and throwing it at him as he laughs. “Yes, asshole, I worry about you. Yes, I care about you even if you’re a terrible patient.”

He moves damn fast for a man who’s technically injured. His arm winds around my waist as he pulls me onto the bed with him, so I’m sprawled over his chest.

“Goddamn, I love you,” he says against my lips, and my heart skips a beat again. I love hearing him say that.

“I love you, too.” Heat settles between my legs as an electric current passes between us. I want to hear him tell me he loves me on repeat. That dark, gruff voice of his is so fucking hot, and when I wriggle my hips, I can feel the hard length of him press against my thigh. I bite my lip, holding in a moan.

“Then marry me.”

I gasp, so surprised that I freeze on top of him. If I’ve learned anything about Kellan, it’s that he’s the kind of guy who doesn’t say something he doesn’t mean. And the look in his eyes is unmistakable.
