Or he had been… Dev said the change in him was dramatic. He was basically a new man. I told him I would believe it when I saw it.
I came out to the porch to greet them and my jaw dropped. I stared in complete shock, realized that Dev may have been downplaying the change in Drake. It was possible, no probable, that ‘changed man’ had been an understatement.
Honestly, I never would have recognized him.
Walking towards me was a gorgeous, dignified, quietly composed couple. Dana was stunning, of course. That didn’t surprise me, of course. Even though I’d only seen her that one time, had been a tad distracted by giving birth, not to mention she had been wearing scrubs, not a pretty sundress. But her beauty was obvious, no matter what she was wearing. And Drake had a thing for pretty ladies.
Heck, all our boys did.
So yeah, seeing Dana looking gorgeous was not a surprise. Not even a little bit. What did surprise me was the utterly normal and peaceful looking biker beside her.
Peaceful and dare I say… dignified? Quiet? Cue the sound of a record scratch.
Drake was wearing a collared shirt tucked into what looked like brand new jeans. No holes or motor oil to be found. He wasn’t cracking jokes or showing anyone his ass. The man was famous for ‘dropping trou’ at the least provocation. There wasn’t a hint of the merry mischief maker to be found. But he was smiling.
A soft smile that had nothing to do with his usual shit eating grin.
“I’ll be damned,” Sally breathed beside me. “Donnie wasn’t exaggerating.”
“My thoughts exactly,” I murmured. “Dev told me Drake had changed, but I didn’t believe him…”
“Ladies,” Janet said, propping her head on my shoulder. Her gorgeous red hair tickled my nose and I wrinkled it, but I was smiling. We were all so glad to see her hair starting to grow in again. That hair was like tulips in spring. A sign of hope. Of new beginnings. “I think hell has just froze over.”
I stifled a laugh, not wanting anyone to think we were gossiping. Even though, we kinda were. In the most benign sense of the word, of course.
“Hi Dana,” I said, offering my hand as they climbed onto the front porch. “I’m Kaylie. You may recall me as the sweaty mess with her legs in the air. Welcome to the family.”
“Of course I remember you and your beautiful baby, Kaylie.”
She took my hand shyly and smiled. And that was it. I was just as smitten as Drake. She was lovely to her bones and even a fool could see it.
And somehow, she’d tamed the wildest of all the wild boys in the club. Heck, Drake might have been the wildest in the entire state. Or he used to be. Not so wild anymore, I thought to myself with a wondering grin.
“Come on, Dana,” Janet said. “Let’s let the boys handle the food. We have fizzy drinks that will make you tipsy.”
And with that, we whisked her out to the back deck to watch the kids play and sip mimosas.
CHAPTER ELEVEN
Dana
“Wow, your home is so beautiful,” I said, looking around Kaylie and Devon’s house. Rustic charm did not begin to cover it. The home was well made, well tended, and well loved, to say the least. “Is it just you guys out here?”
“Thank you. We just finished fixing this place up a couple of years ago.”
“It is so quiet and peaceful. Seems like there isn’t anyone else around for miles.”
“Actually, it just seems that way,” Kaylie said. “Dev’s family owned the land and the cabin but he’s been selling off pieces to it to some of the guy’s with families in the club.”
“Inner circle only,” Molly added with a soft smile.
“It’s our own little slice of heaven,” Suzannah said. I looked around at all the smiling, nodding faces. The women married to Drake’s friends were all gorgeous. Like swimsuit model gorgeous. Miss America gorgeous. It was a bit intimidating, truth be told.
Of course, they were so friendly and kind, it did a lot to set me at ease. I couldn’t remember ever feeling so welcomed. Paige and some of the girls had become fast friends at work, but this was a whole other level.
But I was still a bit shaken by what had happened a few days ago.
As if on cue, an outrageously beautiful redhead with short, cropped hair leaned in.
“Tell us what happened.”
I opened my mouth and looked around. They had already asked me about my dating history (hardly any), my family (they all wanted to meet the aunties; the OG and all the other ladies who had ‘adopted’ me), and my intentions towards Drake (I wasn’t sure what his intentions were yet but I liked him a whole lot). That last answer had raised a bunch of eyebrows but they hadn’t pushed.
