“You’ll see.”

At that moment Becky and Dana stepped out of the second car and the world stopped. I didn’t hear the sounds of nature from the woods behind Mae’s. It was as if the birds had stopped singing. The cars on the main drag in town must have all shut off their engines. I didn’t even hear the words that Becky was saying to Dana.

It sounded like I was under water. All I could hear was the sound of my heart in my ears. All I could see was her.

My beautiful Sunshine. She was here. But she was different.

They had done something to her.

She was… her. But not her.

It was almost like they had turned up the music. Twisted the dial all the way up on her beauty. They had tricked me.

Her long silky hair was more styled than usual, but still natural but somehow… more. It framed her beautiful face perfectly. She had a little makeup on, I realized. Not a lot. Just enough to make it impossible to look away.

I was stupefied.

And that was just above the neck. Below her pretty neck it was a whole different story. I knew Dana had a fantastic figure. I had seen her out of her scrubs.

But I had never seen her looking quite like this.

She wore a dress. But not just a pretty sundress. This was a ‘going out and making men drool’ dress. Tight in all the right places, but not trashy. Not at all. She looked girly as hell, in the best possible way. It was red with dainty white flowers all over it, fitted, with a skirt that swished out over her hips. It covered her luscious breasts, but gave enough of a hint of cleavage to make me drool.

I wiped my lip. It wasn’t a joke. I was literally drooling.

And her legs. I hadn’t really seen them yet, other than briefly in my bed. Her legs alone would make a man ready to get on his knees and beg.

Long, curvy, and silky looking stems with slim ankles and pretty feet that disappeared into high heeled sandals, with her cute little toes sticking out.

They matched the dress. Red. It was all a cruel joke. I would never be able to keep my promise to keep my hands to myself. My carefully laid plans flew out the window.

Goddamn, my Sunshine looked good! Too good. There was no way I could go slow. Hell, that red dress was like waving a red flag at a bull. I would not be surprised if there was actual steam coming out of my nostrils. And my ears.

Ahhh-oooo-gaaaaah.

My mouth dropped open, instantly dry. My body tightened and hardened. I was ready for her.

I was beyond ready.

I wanted to run across the parking lot and scoop her up, carrying her away with me to someplace private so I could have my way with her. Hell, I didn’t even need privacy. I’d take her right here in the parking lot. I didn’t give a damn who was watching.

Let them watch.

But I just stood there, slack jawed as she walked towards me, looking like a bonafide angel. A sexy as hell angel. But an angel, all the same.

“Hi,” she said shyly, stopping in front of me.

“You look…” I swallowed. “Incredible.”

“Thank you,” she said with a little blush, but she looked pleased. I loved pleasing her, I realized. I wanted to do it every damned day for the rest of my life.

I took her hand in a daze, completely ignoring Becky and Whiskey. I heard them laugh but it barely registered. I knew they were laughing at me. But I didn’t give a good Goddamn.

“I seem to recall a prediction I made about six months ago…” Whiskey called out as he helped his wife into the car. I grunted. I knew what he was talking about.

The fucker.

I wasn’t on my knees yet, as he’d predicted. But I would be. Not to beg, though I was more than happy to do that.

I was going to propose marriage to this girl. No two ways about it. She was going to be my wife.

If I could get through the next couple of weeks without making a complete ass of myself, or scaring the girl off, that was. Or drooling. Lots of drooling.

“Where are we…?”

“I am going to take you up these stairs for our meal. But first I need to introduce you to Mae. She’s like a mother to us,” I added, wanting her to know how big a deal it was that I was introducing her to the mother hen of the club.

Mae was Becky’s auntie, but had helped bring up Kaylee, who worked there as a teenager, and some other girls, too. She was a godmother to us all. And she made a mean apple pie, among other things.

Heads swiveled as we walked in. I stood up straighter, putting my arm around Dana’s waist. I wanted everyone to know she was with me.
