We stop in front of a closed door. Tom taps his knuckles against the wood in a secret knock. A few seconds later, the door swings open.

I take a deep breath. I was assuming this “party” was going to be the same as downstairs but with quieter music.

I’m in for quite a surprise.

Jessica follows Tom in first, and I enter the room behind her.

My eyes go wide when I realize what’s going on in here.

This is nothing like the party downstairs. The loud music is replaced by a calm, steady beat playing from a speaker hidden somewhere under a pile of bodies.

There are a few people standing around with drinks, but that’s the only similarity to the party downstairs. Everywhere else, people are having sex.

I cover my mouth with my hand. This is so not what I expected to walk into. I wish Tom had warned us that we were entering a sex party!

I want to turn around and run away. I don’t belong here! Not only am I not the kind of person to join in what appears to be an orgy, but I have a boyfriend. Or, well, I guess I have two boyfriends.

Maybe I didn’t used to be the kind of person who would come to a party like this, but the new Mari could be. I don’t need to participate; I can just observe for a little while.

I take in the scene, trying to keep my judgment to a minimum. That’s when I realize that the couples aren’t only girl-on-guy. There are a bunch of girl-on-girl, and even some guys with other guys!

After what happened last night, gay sex doesn’t phase me. I feel like I’ve seen it all. This is still a shock, though. I wasn’t expecting frat boys to have sex with each other, as well as with women!

My understanding of frat boys was always that they’re heterosexual. Frat parties are for guys to pick up chicks, not other guys.

I suppose I shouldn’t be so surprised. I hadn’t expected John and Mark to be into each other, but last night definitely confirmed that they very much are.

A bisexual frat party. If someone had asked me a year ago if I ever thought I’d end up here, I would have called them crazy. Jessica would have too.

I glance over at my best friend. Her face is as shocked as mine. Beneath the surprise, though, is a bit of intrigue. Jessica isn’t turned off by what’s happening in front of us.

She steps forward to really take it all in, but I stay rooted in my place. I may accept what’s going on, but I’m not ready to experience it fully. My observations can happen from right here in front of the closed door.

I jump when the secret knock sounds behind me. Tom quickly opens the door and lets another frat brother in. This is insane! Do the people downstairs know what’s happening up here? Tom said it’s by invite only. I wonder if random meetings like ours are the way to get invited.

Tom returns to his spot beside Jessica.

“So,” he says. “What do you think?”

Jessica blinks at him. “What, exactly, is going on here?”

Tom chuckles. “I guess I should have warned you. But you did say you were looking for some fun. I delivered, didn’t I?”

“This is something. I had no idea…”

“That the frat is bisexual?”

Jessica shakes her head, and so do I. That explains a lot, though. Like the entire scene in front of us right now.

“Does the school know?”

“Yeah, kind of. I mean, Mu Mu Phi means M-M-F. That’s code for bisexual. Two males, one female.”

I gasp. That’s exactly the kind of relationship I’m in with Mark and John. Do they know about this secret society? I wonder if they were ever members. It must be nice for all of these guys and girls to have a community where they can simply be themselves.

“That’s incredible. Is this unique to NYU?”

“Nope. This is our local chapter, but every school with a Mu Mu Phi chapter is the same. Well, I don’t know if they’re exactly the same, with this kind of party. But they’re all bisexual. We’re a secret society.”

Jessica is in awe. No one seems to care that we’re staring. In fact, some of the couples are turned on by the audience. That’s probably the appeal of a group setting like this.

“Have I totally freaked you out? Maybe I should’ve briefed you. You girls seemed like you’d be into it, though…”

“No!” Jessica says a bit too loudly. “I mean, you haven’t freaked us out. We’re into it. Very into it.”

I shoot her a look. “I’m still taken,” I point out.

Tom shrugs. “A few of the guys in here are taken. The girls, too. They just watch. Will your boyfriend care?”

I consider this. While they don’t mind sharing me with each other, I don’t think Mark and John want to share me with anyone else.
