“Yeah, baby. We’re going home now.”

CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE

Epilogue - 1 day

We brought Cohen back with us to the clubhouse.

I don’t know if it was even a conscious decision at first. It seemed like we were just driving out of the area of Cain Roth’s dungeon, wanting to get as much space between us and there as possible.

Then Cohen passed out in the backseat, something neither of us could judge him for, after he’d been so horribly beaten, and then needed to come out of retirement to do an extraction.

Which, apparently, was his specialty, I’d learned from Sway as he recounted the events that happened after I’d been taken.

If I hadn’t already been in love with the man, I was pretty sure I would have fallen right then. Not just because he’d done the whole knight-in-shining-armor thing, but because of the raw emotion in his voice as he told me about all of it.

How much he’d worried.

How much he wanted to murder Cain Roth himself.

That would have been nice.

But I still found it… right that I was the one to do it. With a little help from Morgaine.

Cohen had woken up as we pulled up to the clubhouse, disoriented and tense.

“We will drive you home,” Sway assured him. “But it seemed like maybe the dogs needed a break from all the driving. At least for a day or two,” he added, appealing to Cohen’s love for his dogs when I knew what he really wanted was to give Cohen a chance to recover. Away from the hard work that his homestead would include.

“Yeah, they’re not used to so much driving,” Cohen relented as he climbed out of the car, doing his best to keep his pain to himself, but the hours of sleep had really allowed all of it to sink in, it seemed.

We’d managed to get his dogs fed and him cleaned up, fed, then off to one of the empty rooms to sleep it off. With air conditioning and TV and all the things he wasn’t accustomed to back home.

The rest of us had needed to fill in Slash on what had happened before we could all go our separate ways.

My first place to go was right to Morgaine, throwing my arms around her in a show of affection that wasn’t typical of me, but I was going with it, as I told her that her necklace had kept me safe, had done what it was meant to do.

“Good,” she said with a small smile tugging at her lips. “Then it was an incredibly terrifying and painful way to go. Like he deserved.”

That was something I think we could all agree on.

“How are you really?” Sway asked for what felt like the tenth time when I woke up still wrapped in his arms. I wasn’t sure if he’d even slept.

“I’m okay,” I told him, taking a deep breath of him in, realizing that what I was telling him was the truth.

Sure, I knew there would be road bumps on the road to recovery. Nightmares and irrational fears of something like that happening again. But it was over. The way it could only be over when you’d singlehandedly murdered a notorious trafficker, and helped take out his entire organization.

No one would be coming for me.

Those unknown women I worried about, knowing they might get swept up into Cain Roth’s dungeon, they were all free and safe.

I was going to anonymously help them.

Which meant I was going to need to get my ass back to work, finish out my outstanding contracts.

I had a lot of good to do in the world.

But it was just going to have to wait as I pushed Sway onto his back and climbed over him, feeling the desire burning through my system as he looked up at me with that warmth in his eyes, as his hands started to move over me.

If there was one way to celebrate your life and your freedom after years of feeling unsure of both, it was to spend the day with the man you loved, bodies entwined, sparking pleasure until it raged into a wildfire.

So that was exactly what we did.

Sway - 1 month

She never even casually mentioned moving out of the clubhouse.

In fact, she didn’t mention her old life at all until nearly a month had passed of having her right there with me. In my bed, in my arms, across the table from me, taking walks with the dogs beside me.

“I need to go get my stuff,” she said as we sat watching the dogs follow Morgaine as she went to collect chicken eggs.

“Yeah, I guess that makes sense,” I agreed. “Since you’re not there to use any of it anymore,” I added.

There was a long silence after that until Murphy let out a snorting laugh.

“What?” I asked.

“We both really suck at this, don’t we?” she asked.
