I peer into the box and see something hidden beneath the pajamas. My brow furrows with good-natured confusion when I see a microwavable packet of extra butter popcorn, then I move it aside and see a cloudy gray background with a brooding vampire and his clumsy beloved.

It’s a Blu-ray of Twilight.

“You didn’t!” I laugh, delighted. I grab the movie case out of the box and hug it, then I look back at him, still grinning. “You messed up, buddy. I’m gonna make you watch it with me now.”

He grins, kissing my neck. “What do you think we’re doing tonight?” He lets go of me and snatches the popcorn out of the box, then he smacks my ass before heading for the kitchen. “I’ll make the popcorn. You go put on your new pajamas.”

I can’t stop grinning as I take my gifts and head for the hall, but I stop in the kitchen to give him a hug first.

“Thank you,” I say seriously. It’s a silly gift, but it’s also thoughtful and one more example of how he’s always listening to everything I say. “I was joking about the movie, but I’m actually really excited to make you watch it.”

He smirks. “I can survive a bad movie. I just like making you smile.”

My heart tugs. “You do. A lot.” I give him one more hug, then hand him the movie so he can set it up while I go to our new bedroom to change into something much more comfortable.

Chapter Thirty-six

Sophie

The bedroom is dark when I open my eyes, but that doesn’t mean anything. Our new bedroom has the same massive windows as the living area, but the shades in here block the sun and make the room dark as night.

I can smell bacon cooking down the hall so I know it must be morning.

I’m surprised Silvan cooks since he’s had a staff all his life, but it’s a pleasant surprise.

I give myself one more minute to lie there with my eyes closed, soaking up the comfort of our massive king bed, then I drag myself out of it and head for the bathroom.

It’s a school day, and I don’t know what our morning routine will look like now. I assume since Silvan and I are coming from the same place and going to the same place, we’ll probably ride together.

That reminds me, my car is still at the dorm. I’ll need to ask him about parking so I can bring it here.

I search the medicine cabinet for my new pack of birth control pills, but I don’t see them. I meant to take the first one last night, but I’m not in the habit yet, so I forgot. I’m supposed to take them at the same time every day, so I’d rather take them in the evening when I know I’ll be awake. On non-school days, I like to sleep in.

I slip on my pajamas since I need to shower before school, but Silvan is already making breakfast. I don’t want it to get cold, so I’ll eat with him first.

“Hey, what did you do with the birth control Hugh got for me yesterday?”

I halt at the end of the hall when instead of seeing Silvan at the stove making breakfast, I see him sitting at the island waiting for breakfast.

My gaze drifts to Olena at the stove, and my lips thin.

I look back at him and cock an eyebrow.

“It’s in my school bag. I’ll grab it,” he says, hopping off the chair.

I follow him, keeping my voice low. “You really brought the maid who wants to bang you?”

He smirks. “Gotta keep you on your toes.”

“How dare you.”

He laughs and grabs me, pulling me in for a kiss. “I’m just teasing. You know I’m only interested in you.”

“Yeah, that’s great, but I am not as trusting as your mom.”

“No one’s as trusting as my mom,” he says lightly as he lets me go and reaches into his bag.

“We do not need a maid,” I tell him.

“We don’t need a maid, or we don’t need that maid?”

“Either. Both. I don’t know. I’m perfectly capable of cooking and cleaning. Do you know how to cook?”

“Nope.”

“Then I’ll show you. It’ll be fun.”

“I’m fine with that, but I don’t see why either of us should waste our time cleaning. Why don’t we have her over a couple of times a week at least to keep the place in order?”

“If we must have someone come once or twice a week, can it at least be the maid who doesn’t call you master like she’d rather be working off her debt tied to your bed than cooking us breakfast?”

Silvan smirks. “Sure. If it makes you feel better, I’ll tell Ilona to come next time.”

“Thank you.”

He hands me the birth control, his amused gaze never leaving mine. “You’re welcome.”
