I want to text him and ask what’s going on, but I also don’t want to say anything incriminating in case he’s being a lunatic.

God. Just when I was settling into the idea of being in an actual relationship with him. I thought we were having a nice romantic weekend, not… whatever this is.

I fold my arms over my chest and sulk as Silvan’s friend closes my car door and pops the trunk to throw my bag in.

I keep my purse up here with me, and I think about texting Silvan just to make sure he did send this guy, but I don’t have enough doubt to go through with it. I know they’re friends since he came last time Silvan got all crazy, and why else would this guy who is so clearly not interested in me be abducting me if not because my psycho boyfriend told him to? It just doesn’t check out.

I glance over at him when he gets in and shuts his door. “Do you work for Silvan or something?”

He shakes his head. “Just friends with similar interests.”

“When most people say that, they mean shopping or pilates,” I mutter.

He smirks faintly and reaches for the gear shift, but before he shifts into drive, he seems to remember something. “Can you do me a favor? Reach into the glove compartment and grab my phone. I need to put the address in the GPS.”

“Sure.” Without thought, I drop my purse in the floor and lean forward to unlatch the glove compartment door.

As soon as my hands are close together, he grabs them. I yelp, fighting to pull away, but before I can, he locks handcuffs around both hands and secures them. He reaches between my legs and I scream, but he’s not touching me, he’s only grabbing a chain on the floor and attaching it to the chain linking the cuffs. I yank and yank, but I must be chained to something under the seat because I can’t move my hands higher than my lap.

Wide-eyed and belligerent, I say, “What the hell?”

He ignores me and grabs my purse from the floor. He opens the middle section first and looks inside. When he doesn’t find what he’s looking for, he closes it and pulls open the back part, finding my phone. He grabs it and tosses it into the back seat so I won’t be able to reach it.

“Are you kidnapping me?”

Now that I’m bound, he seems to find me even less significant than before. I don’t think he’ll even bother answering me, but he finally says, “I’m taking you to Silvan, like I said.”

“To ransom me? Because if Silvan sent you, I can’t believe he would want me transported this way. When he finds out how you’re treating me, he’s going to be pissed.”

I expect my words to get through a little bit. If he and Silvan are good enough friends for Silvan to trust him with the things he trusts him with, surely, he knows how much Silvan cares about me.

Rather than look the least bit scared, though, the bastard smirks at me. “Maybe before your little phone call. But Silvan has pretty strong opinions about unfaithful women. Right now, I think he could be convinced that you needed to be… punished.”

When he delivers the last line, he reaches over and traces the curve of my jaw with one gloved finger. My breath hitches and a thrill of sheer terror shoots down my spine because I know how helpless I am to defend myself right now.

Just stay calm. Don’t panic. He’s certainly not going to calm you down.

My chest gets tighter, but I breathe through it.

I lick my lips, but they’re dry.

I wish I would have taken a sip of my water before I put it in my bag.

If Silvan were the one kidnapping me, he would somehow sense my thirst. He would grab my bottle of water out of my purse and give me a sip to satisfy my needs even while he’s mad at me.

But this isn’t Silvan, and this guy doesn’t give a single fuck about my needs or my comfort.

The thought makes me a little sad.

I miss Silvan.

I really didn’t think he’d heard the call. I stopped thinking about it because his behavior hadn’t changed. I’m honestly stunned that’s what this is about.

Surely, there should have been some indication he was mad at me.

My mind races through the past few days searching for something, anything that felt off, but I can’t think of a single thing. We’ve been… happy.

Silvan’s friend shifts his car into drive. Before we take off, he looks over at me. “How are you at following rules, Sophie?”

I lick my dry lips again. “I’d say pretty good.”

“Good. I like girls who can follow the rules. My rules are simple, and as long as you follow them, we’ll get along just fine.” His dark gaze locks with mine, a flicker of malice glinting in their otherwise empty-looking depths. “Don’t fight back. Don’t piss me off. And don’t be a troublemaker.” He holds my gaze for a moment before digging in on that one. “I don’t like troublemakers.”
