“Jesus,” I rolled, getting up to my hands and knees and crawling to the edge of the bed—a bed that I had no clue who it belonged to.

I didn’t give that much thought, though, in my haste to find a toilet.

I didn’t even think about the fact that I wasn’t wearing any clothes but a man’s black t-shirt with nothing else underneath. I didn’t even have socks on! Which I always wore to bed because I didn’t like the way my heels felt when they touched the sheets.

After relieving my bladder in the darkened bathroom—nice to see that drinking an entire bottle of wine while eating ice cream didn’t affect my newly acquired x-ray vision—I walked out of the door and took in my surroundings.

The room I was in was massive. It had to be the size of my entire apartment, bathroom, closet, kitchen, living room, and laundry room combined.

It was painted a soft taupe, and there were sparse decorations throughout the room.

Only a large king bed dominated one wall—the huge comfy mattress covered in soft white sheets set into a large four-poster bed that looked like it weighed a whole lot more than any bed I’d ever seen before.

That was likely because it belonged to a vampire, though.

Apparently, vampires liked to sleep in big beds with soft as hell sheets.

Did vampires sleep?

And how did I know that I was in Constantine’s house? By the way the bedroom smelled of him.

I could feel his scent permeating the air around me, and I couldn’t help the delicious shiver that tore through my body at the way his essence filled my lungs.

“Are you hungry?”

I turned from studying that big bed to find Constantine standing in the doorway, his arms crossed over his unbuttoned white dress shirt over his half-bared chest.

His blond hair was down from its usual pulled back state, and it was soft and curling around his nape.

His beard was curlier than usual, too, meaning that at some point in the night he’d taken a shower which had caused it to grow unruly.

Wet droplets still clung to his exposed chest, drawing my attention to the intricate swirls of tattoos that covered that beautiful body.

“Did you get those before or after you were turned?” I found myself asking without thought.

“Before… and after.”

“I’m glad you could clear that up.” I laughed. “As to your earlier question, yes, I’m hungry. What do you have to eat?”

He looked at me oddly.

“What are you hungry for?” he asked casually.

Almost too casually.

“Ummm.” I hesitated, thinking about what I would most like to eat. “A cupcake wouldn’t be remiss,” I finally settled on.

His expression didn’t change, but I could tell that I’d shocked him.

“A cupcake.”

How, I didn’t know. It was more of a feeling rather than anything he’d shown outwardly.

As if he was saying something to me, just not audibly for me to hear it with my ears.

Awareness of the man standing in front of me was a lazy pulse just beneath the surface of my skin, and my hands itched to run over the length of his exposed torso.

He was wearing a white button-down dress shirt, unbuttoned, and showing very little skin. But the little he was showing down the length of his chest and abs was enough to set my blood on fire.

I wanted to launch myself at him. Wanted to climb him like a tree, wrap my legs around his hips, and impale myself on his long length all the while he pulled my hair and urged me on.

“What is that look on your face, Cadi?”

I swallowed, looking away.

“So, about that cupcake?”

I couldn’t be thinking of having sex with him. I’d literally just fucked the man against the window overlooking his club. In front of his friends.

I didn’t care how many times he told me that they couldn’t see. There was always a hint of truth in every lie that was told, and I knew without having confirmation that they could see through the one-way glass. They might not have actually seen or witnessed it, but they knew what was happening on the opposite side.

“I’m afraid there’re no cupcakes to be found in the entire manor,” he drawled. “But if we head to the kitchen, I can see what Chen was able to scrounge up for us on such short notice.”

“How short notice?” I asked warily. “And why am I at your place? Oh, and why can’t I remember how I got here?” I looked down at my clothes. “And let’s not even get into the fact that I’m not wearing the same clothes I put on when you so carelessly dropped me off in the middle of my apartment without updating me to your whereabouts and how you were fairing.”

His lips twitched as he held out his hand.

I went, and his eyes seemed to study my forehead for a long second as I moved closer to him.
