My eyes linger on the hulk of a man in front of me. It doesn’t go unnoticed by me that his vest has the word President printed on it. Or that he’s the sexiest man I’ve ever laid eyes on.
“How old are you?” his deep voice rumbles. I swear it sends chills through my body. It reminds me of one of those really good audiobook narrators. I bet Vee is thinking the same thing. Her hold on my back releases.
“Twenty.” I tilt my chin back more to meet his dark gaze. My breath catches.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen eyes so dark before in my life. Everything about him is dark and sexy. If I had a mom, this would be the type of boy she would tell me to stay away from. Not that this one would ever be considered a boy. From the looks of it, he hasn’t been one in a long time.
“Twenty.” He rolls the word on his tongue. My eyes drop to his mouth. I get lost in my thoughts of what it would feel like for him to kiss me.
“I’m here to meet up with my boyfriend. He invited me,” I blurt out when I realize I’ve been staring at the hot man’s mouth for a bit too long, and he probably thinks I’m into him. I mean, I am, but that’s so not happening. I’m here to do a job. I need to stay on track. Not get distracted by this handsome man.
I turn my head when I feel Vee step away from me. “What are you doing?” I whisper or maybe it’s more of a yell to her. From the looks of it, I would say she’s trying to wander off with some hot blond guy. “Hey.” I make a grab for my best friend before he steals her from me.
“Boyfriend?” That deep voice rumbles again. It’s no longer smooth and sexy. Now it sounds almost angry.
“What?”
“You said your boyfriend invited you.”
“That man is stealing my best friend.” I try to move around him, but he steps right back in front of me, blocking my path.
“Arch has her. I’m Jason.”
“Arch?” I ask, peeking my head around Jason. What kind of name is Arch? “Hey!” I shout again when this Arch guy goes to hand Vee a drink. I rush over toward them and knock it right out of Vee’s hand. The liquid splashes all over our legs. “We don’t take drinks from men.”
“We don’t?” She takes a step back from Arch, finally breaking out of the hot guy’s spell she’s fallen under.
“That was the rule you made before we even got here.” I swear she listed about twenty of them before we left her place. I can’t even remember half of them. Especially with Jason standing so close to me. His body is all but pressed into my back.
“Right.” Vee nods in agreement, remembering her own rules.
“No one is going to drug anyone here.” Jason's arm comes around me from behind, and he places his palm on my stomach. I find myself leaning back into him, happy that we seem to be in now. Not only that, but we have two hot men flirting with us. At least I think that’s what they’re doing.
“How do you know?” I turn my head to try to look up at Jason.
“This is my place. I’d have their heads if they tried something like that.” He growls the last part. It rumbles from his body into mine. The sound is sexy. “Arch has her. I promise on my life no one will hurt her.” I don’t know why, but I find myself believing him.
When I go to look back at Vee, she’s gone. “What the hell?” That is so unlike her.
“She’s fine.” He drops his hand from my stomach to grab my hand. “You want a drink?” He tangles our fingers together.
People step out of the way as he leads me farther into the giant warehouse. A lot of them turn and stare openly at us.
Going off of how everyone else is dressed, I’m guessing it's my clothes that are drawing all the looks. Vee and I both wore dresses. That isn't really the problem, though, since most of the girls here are also wearing them.
The only difference is that theirs are a bit tighter and showing off their killer bodies. If I looked like them, I’d be rocking a dress that tight too instead of this cute white sundress. Okay, maybe I wouldn't wear something so tight, but I’d think about it.
“Who’s this boyfriend you mentioned?” Jason asks, slowing his pace.
My eyes catch on the giant box thing at the end of the bar we’re headed toward. Two girls stand on top of it. They are making out while they dance. One of the girls has the top of her dress pulled down. Everyone can see her breasts. I have to admit that they’re nice.
