“I fucking hope so,” Levi said as he reached the door.
I waited until the door closed behind Levi before asking him, “Why did you burn down a house?”
Gage lowered his head and pressed a kiss to the corner of my mouth. “Someone touched what was mine,” he said softly. “I need to fuck you now, baby.”

“Seems you forgot to mention something to me,” Uncle Neil said, walking out of his office to address me.
I stopped pulling files and looked at him. “What?”
Lately, a concerned frown seemed to be permanently etched on his forehead when he looked at me. “I was going to go to Gage’s house to cut the leg cast off and put on a brace today. However, it seems he is coming here because he’s not at home.” Uncle Neil paused and studied me.
“Gage is getting his leg cast off?” I asked.
Uncle Neil nodded. “Yes. As you know, I have most equipment at their house since it’s not uncommon for them to need my services.”
Because they’re the Mafia and you didn’t tell me. I could throw that in his face. He hadn’t mentioned that.
“Shiloh, why is Gage Presley staying at your apartment?”
I was going to have to deal with this eventually. Might as well start the first week of the relationship.
“Because I won’t stay at his house,” I replied with a tight smile, then went back to looking for the patient files we needed. “I assume I should also pull Gage’s file?”
“No, it’s not in there. I keep their files … elsewhere.”
I looked back at my uncle. He was waiting on me to say more.
“Why do you do that, Uncle Neil? Why can’t their files go in here?” I asked, knowing exactly why he didn’t keep their files where anyone could access them.
He narrowed his eyes at me. “Shiloh, if you know why, then I need you to admit that. Because I am struggling right now with the fact that you are my niece and your safety trumps all else.”
My aggravation with him eased. He wasn’t supposed to tell me—or anyone for that matter. Telling me would put him and me in danger—or in other circumstances where I wasn’t with Gage, it would.
He blamed himself for putting me in a very bad position. There was no way for him to know younger me had been the one to start this. Not him.
“Yes, I know who and what he is. What they all are. And I am safe. Trust me,” I assured him.
“You’re seeing him then?”
I nodded.
He sighed and rubbed at his white beard. “He knew you … before?”
I nodded again.
“There is an age difference. Doesn’t matter now, but back then …” He trailed off.
I smiled. “Apparently, teenage me was adventurous.”
“What about him being angry at you?” he asked, but before I could answer, the front door opened, and Gage walked in, followed by Huck.
Gage’s eyes locked on mine, and then he winked. Just five short hours ago, I’d been straddling him in bed while he gave me another epic orgasm. I bit my bottom lip, feeling my cheeks get warm.
“I guess that answers my last question,” Uncle Neil said under his breath.
Gage walked to me, and I put down the files I had been working on to step over to the counter. He stopped when he reached the other side.
“You look hot in scrubs,” he said, then flashed me a grin that made my knees weak.
“You saw me in them this morning,” I reminded him.
“Yeah, and thought about it several times.”
Uncle Neil cleared his throat. “Ah, um, okay, let’s get that cast off, why don’t we?” he said.
Gage winked at me before turning to walk over to the door Uncle Neil was standing at. Huck didn’t go with them. He glanced over at me, and I could see the concerned look in his eyes.
“Do you need my assistance?” I asked Uncle Neil.
“I’ll have Reba help me,” he replied.
I turned my attention back to Huck and smiled. “Hello.”
He rubbed the back of his neck and studied me. “You know this is bad, right?”
Needing clarity, I asked, “What?”
“This shit with the two of you. Gage is not”—he glanced around to make sure no one else was in the room—“sane when it comes to you. The two of you together is flawed as fuck. He’s always been crazy, but with you, he is psychotic.”
I glanced back at the closed door. The way he would go from being so sweet to the look he’d get in his eyes that excited and terrified me at the same time had been bothering me. Making me question a lot. I didn’t know all of our history, and when I had asked him last night, he’d skirted around it until I was distracted with his body again.
“I love him,” I admitted. It was the only excuse I had for this.
