“Fuck yes, it is,” Kace said, looking over the house. “And I really want this place to be as nice as my own house. Let me show you.”

He quickly punched in a code on the door and led me inside. The air in the guest house was a few degrees colder than outside, and I watched as Kace broke out in goosebumps in the chill. Why did that make me want to touch his skin?

I looked away from his skin for long enough to take in the surroundings, and it became clear why he needed to hire out renovation work.

“Shit,” I said, looking around at a severely charred kitchen. “When was the fire?”

“Before I bought this place,” Kace said, his eyes glancing over all of the fire damage. “It was sold as-is, and the house was fucking sweet, so it was worth it. But I knew the guest house needed to be fixed. Just wanted to wait until the off-season to get it going.”

“I’ve worked on a few places with fire damage before,” I told him, crouching down to look at the baseboards. “It’s a bit more complex, but with enough funds, it’s very doable.”

Kace gave me a nod. “I had the fire damage company come through last week. They said I got very lucky, and that most of the inner structure is salvageable.”

“Did the damage stretch anywhere else?”

“Half of the bedroom wall is fucked, too,” Kace said. “Come see.”

He led me to the bedroom where the fire had clearly spread. “Do they know what caused this?”

“Someone left a tray of tortilla chips in the toaster oven and went to go hang out in the pool,” he said. “Fuckers. This place used to be a luxury rental. Darren Mills owned this place before me, and it was one of his friends who started the fire. I hate that guy.”

“I have no clue who that is, but I assume my daughter would know.”

Kace lifted an eyebrow. “Wow, you really are old, aren’t you?” There was that mischief in his eyes, again.

“You trying to hire me or roast me?” I batted back at him.

“Nathan, I’m kidding,” Kace said, reaching out to give my bicep a quick squeeze. “I like it. I like older guys. Everyone knows it.”

I scratched the back of my head. “My brothers probably know that about you, but I’m straight,” I told him. “All I know is that you throw a football better than any player I’ve ever seen. And I’ve seen lots. You know. Because I’m so fucking old.”

Kace laughed, and it was like I’d won a prize. “You’re actually really funny, bud.”

“You’ve called me bud, bro, and Daddy since meeting me,” I told him, letting myself tease him back a bit. “Should we start a tally of all the weird shit you’re going to call me when you hire me?”

I’d flipped a switch from feeling nervous around Kace to being 100% myself, and I was giddy to discover that Kace actually liked it. I didn’t feel like I was just wasting some celebrity’s time. I felt like I was having fun. Real fun.

And I didn’t get enough real fun in my life these days.

“I like your confidence,” Kace said, cocking his head. “When I hire you. Like it’s a done deal.”

I nodded once. “I don’t know much, but I do know that Fixer Brothers will do the best job in town. We have a personal touch that other companies just can’t match.”

He nodded once. The sun was shining through the long window behind him in the bedroom, and as his hair dried, it started to look more like a fluffy halo on his head. My eyes glanced down involuntarily. His nipples were hard in the cold air, and the deep V that led down toward the towel slung around his waist was so perfectly cut it looked like marble.

For a second, I’d forgotten I was chatting with one of the most famous athletes in the world.

When I looked back up at him, Kace was looking right at me, as if he’d been enjoying me checking out his body.

“What do you think?” he asked. I felt my cock stir under my jeans.

The fuck. Why the hell was my cock responding at all to another guy, even if he was Kace Tomlin?

I swallowed, then cleared my throat. The nerves from earlier came back full force, and suddenly I didn’t know what to say.

“What do I think? Well, I mean, you’re an athlete,” I said. “Of course you have a great body. The fucking best I’ve ever seen, actually—”

“Sweetie, I was asking what you think about the renovation, not of me,” Kace said, a hint of a playful smile on his face. “Glad to know you like my body, though.”

My cheeks had never gotten hotter faster in my life. “Oh, fuck off,” I said. “You knew exactly what you were doing, there.”
