They were the last to leave the room, and since neither of them was up for partying, they headed upstairs to Leo’s after exchanging a few words with Leo’s former classmates, who seemed over the moon about the chance to have fun at the compound.

They wouldn’t be given any peace and quiet though, because Mike caught up to them at the bottom of the stairs. Zolt could hear the thud of his footsteps from afar but didn’t try to avoid the inevitable when Mike blocked their way, his nostrils flaring as if he were about to charge at an army.

“I need to know,” he said, drilling them with his inquisitive gaze, “Is this a real thing? Is Zolt moving in?”

Zolt swallowed, unsteady on his feet. Was he? Would he move in with Leo now? Live in his small room? Would this be a requirement if he wanted to get closer to the club? What about the pawn shop?

Leo groaned and let go of Zolt’s hand just to cross his arms on his chest. “Mike. Seriously. Why do you need to know this? We haven’t even talked about it all yet. Maybe. We will see in the coming days how things develop.”

Zolt itched to have Leo’s hand back in his, but he said nothing, watching Mike’s features twitch in annoyance. But he was irked too. His situation was messy, and while he’d taken this huge step and put himself under the MC’s protection, his relationship with Leo was still new, and it was hard to say what might develop from it.

“Does Zolt know about this thing with Mona?” Mike asked, gesturing between them with a frown.

He might as well have splashed coffee into Zolt’s face.

“What thing with Mona?” Zolt asked, glancing at Leo while his neck pulsed.

Leo smirked. “He means the baby. Mike’s jealous the girls don’t think he's daddy material. But Mike, maybe if you were more responsible, they’d have chosen you instead.”

Mike spread his arms. “And what’s so responsible about going gay?”

“I’m not gay!”

“You still need to fuck her to make the baby. Probably more than once,” Mike said, raising his nose as if he weren’t speaking like a complete moron.

Zolt shook his head, and the smile on his face was honest for the first time since he’d decided to put his life on the line to be with Leo. “Dude. Rain’s not going to let you have sex with her wife. Come on, even you have to know there are other methods,” he said and poked Leo with his elbow.

Mike sneered. “It’s just not right man, not natural.”

Leo dragged his hands down his face. “Your favorite sandwich with cheese and chocolate is not natural, but there’s nothing unnatural about making a baby, however it happens.”

“And what? Zolt will be the second father?” Mike asked, shaking his head.

Leo spoke before Zolt could have gone pale. “Why do you care? Didn’t you say you don’t even want kids?”

Mike shrugged. “I just want to make sure you two know what you’re doing.”

Seriously.

Zolt stepped forward and gave Mike’s shoulder the tiniest pat. “We appreciate your concern, but Leo told you he needs to figure things out. It’s not a race. Right?” he asked, glancing at Leo as confidence in that statement slowly evaporated from his head.

But Leo gave him a wide smile. “Exactly. No need to rush—”

Mike shook his head. “You’ve literally told our whole family Zolt’s your man now, and that you’re into dick. You always rush into stuff, Leo.”

Leo groaned. “Okay, so maybe I do, but this is what I want, and it’s not your problem. Actually, it’s not a problem at all.” He entwined his fingers with Zolt’s, and his touch instantly soothed the worry overtaking Zolt’s heart.

Mike waved his hand at them. “It’s just weird, man, but… don’t let get Kane get to you brother. You do whatever you need to do.” He patted Leo’s arm before walking off, leaving Zolt strangely mushy inside at the display of brotherly love.

“I still don’t like him, but he’s not the worst,” Zolt said in the end, stroking Leo’s hand with his thumb as they ascended the wooden stairs.

“He’s not. He’s always teased me without mercy but was never truly mean. I know my family can be… a lot to handle.”

“You could say that, but they haven’t told you to leave, and that’s something,” Zolt said, thinking back to the moment his parents had confronted him about the magazines found in his room. There had been ultimatums, and a whole lot of frost. Nobody had said it to his face but he’d known he was no longer wanted. Leo, on the other hand, was still welcome, even though his sexuality made everyone uncomfortable in one way or another.

Leo smiled back at him as he opened the door to his room. “I’d leave with you if they were against this relationship. Someone’s gotta take care of you, Zolt. You keep getting into fights.”
