“If you only knew,” I teased, my tongue sweeping out to brush against his thumb.

“Hold that thought for when I can take you again without hurting you.” His palm slid around to cup the back of my head as he bent low to claim my mouth in a deep kiss. “We gotta give your pussy a break. For a little while at least. I wasn’t able to hold back as much as I wanted since it was your first time.”

“Maybe you should’ve shown up sooner, like on my birthday. Then we would’ve been past me recovering from you popping my cherry, and we could be doing the things you want me to talk about.”

My tone was teasing, but he must have heard the tiniest thread of doubt in my voice because his eyes turned serious. Rolling off me, he scooted up on the mattress so his back was resting against the headboard. Then he shifted me so I was cradled against his chest with his palm splayed against my lower back while I stared up at him. The steady beat of his heart in my ear while being wrapped in his embrace made me feel safe for the first time in so long.

“That was the plan, baby.”

My eyes widened as I gasped, “It was?”

“I’ve been looking forward to coming for you on your eighteenth birthday for two years, Blakely.” His hold on me tightened. “But my sister decided to show up a couple of weeks early to spend Christmas with me. Some bullshit about wanting to earn some money to cover expenses next semester instead of just letting me give her whatever she needs.”

I had only met Elise a few times over the years, but I’d heard enough of Gideon’s stories about his younger sister that I wasn’t surprised she was being stubborn about wanting to cover some of her own expenses. Although he had left home when she was only eight, they were still close…and both could be obstinate when they had their minds set on something.

Besides Fox or Maverick, she was also one of the only people who could get Gideon to change his plans.

“I’m really glad you got to spend the holiday with your sister. How is she?”

A muscle jumped in his jaw as he growled, “Not good. Some bastard ran her off the road yesterday.”

Pushing against his chest, I sat up and gawked at him. “What? Is she okay?”

“She’s shaken up, but Blade looked her over and said her injuries were minor.” He raked his fingers through his hair. “Cut her head and bruised her ankle.”

“Did you catch the guy who did it?”

He shook his head. “Not yet, but the guys are on it. And they’re keeping her safe at the clubhouse while I’m gone.”

One of the things I loved most about Gideon was his loyalty. He was so dedicated to the people he cared about, which had been a big part of why I’d been devastated when he dropped out of my life. Because it made me feel as though there was no chance that I was someone who was even a little important to him.

But knowing that he left with Elise’s situation up in the air eased any fears I had about how much I meant to Gideon. He had trusted his club brothers to take care of her while he came for me himself. “Wow.”

He reached out to stroke his thumb against my cheek, his fingers tugging on my jaw to pull my head down for a kiss. When his tongue tangled with mine, heat coursed through my veins. Clutching his shoulders, I pressed against him while he deepened the kiss. The chemistry between us exploded, and he rolled us until he hovered over me again.

Pressing his elbow into the mattress next to me, he lifted his other arm to cup my breast. I arched my back to press the pebbled peak deeper into his palm and moaned into his mouth. His dark eyes burned into mine as he broke off the kiss with a groan. “Fuck, baby. Not sure I can keep my cock outta you now that I finally have you right where you belong, beneath me.”

I was a little achy between my legs, but that didn’t stop me from wanting Gideon with a desperation that I didn’t know was possible. “Then maybe you should stop trying and just take me again. Right here, right now.”

“Or at least give you another—”

A loud knock on the door interrupted what he’d been in the middle of saying, and I pressed the back of my head against the pillows and cried, “Nooooo!”

A deep voice called, “C’mon, man. I hate to break this up, but I gave you as long as I could. We gotta roll now, or Fox is gonna have our heads when we get back.”
